WHERE ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?
Our thought process is very powerful and I have been rudely reminded of just how powerful my thoughts were during the last few months. I know better and it truly was a great reminder.
My bag was misplaced on my way to Phoenix last month, where I was going to run in another race. I had been worried about my bag for weeks before the trip and purposely packed light so it could be carried on. What I didn't check was the size of the plane, I was put on a puddle jumper where they made me check my bag at the gate.
Feeling angry and distrustful I gave them my bag. Still fuming, I asked for directions as to what to do when we landed on our layover. Naturally I was given the wrong information. So my bag stayed in Salt Lake rather than continuing on the same plane with me to Phoenix.
While working to stay calm I was told don't worry there are five more planes coming in today, but I wasn't willing to let go of my anger. Four planes later it was still not there and I had to come to terms with my own attitude and just let go. Once I did my bag arrived at 7:30 that night with my running shoes eight hours before my race. My negative thoughts created all the drama, it didn't have to be that way.
Next, through a multitude of errors on our part, we accidently paid our mortgage twice. Happily I told my hubby I would call the bank and take care of it. Once again I started the whole process with my thoughts being negative and expecting to deal with incompetence. So naturally it ended up taking fourteen days, twenty-eight phone calls, three scans, and five 3-way calls with my bank before I once again got the message that maybe my attitude had something to do with this.
Deep down I knew that lightening up and shifting my thoughts to good results would help the drama end. So I took some deep breaths, did some inner reflection on how to improve my personal judgment about client service people and began again. Happily I was given a completely new solution to the problem and my check showed up three days later.
When the check arrived I sang a happy song, did a dance and drove to the bank. On the way home and still feeling good I stopped at the car wash. My emotions were high and anything was possible. My entire being was happy and I was a magnet for good things. So it was just perfect when out of the blue I was given a free car wash! How about that!
Let your thoughts stay positive when difficult situations arise and there will be much less drama. Think back to those difficult times you've had and try to remember where your thought process was at the beginning of the situation. Ask yourself how it could have been handled differently? Now think about those times when everything has gone very smoothly, what was your frame of mind then? Be intentional about your thoughts and life can prove to be much easier.
I love coming into organizations, working with teams that are struggling and finding quick solutions. This can save millions of dollars and completely change the dynamic of the team or organization. Call me to find out more. |
