A Message from your President
 Dear CTHIMA Members

First off I want to wish everyone a very Happy and Healthy Holiday Season, and a very Happy New Year.  The seasons seem to be coming around a lot sooner as I get older. It seems that it was just summer, then before I knew it it was Halloween, and Thanksgiving and Christmas really snuck up on me as is New Years. Oh well,  I hope all our members are doing well and that the New Year brings you all the best.

Now for The Board Update. Your board has been busy setting up educational sessions, as well as planning new and exciting things to come. First let me give you an update on The House of delegates. The delegates have elected Susan Parker, MED, RHIA from North  Carolina, as the New Speaker of the house for 2012. We also elected Kimberly Baldwin-Stried Reich, MBA, RHIA, CPHQ from Illinois as the Speaker Elect who will become Speaker in 2013. The new Speaker position will sit on the Board of Directors and be a voice for the members. Also starting in the new year all the House teams will start meeting again.

As for CTHIMA, we have had several educational sessions as well as a coding roundtable. We have had some great speakers at these meetings such as Jennifer Cox, David Mack, from Shipman and Goodwin, just to mention a few. I would like to thank all our speakers, that have donated their time and effort on our behalf. I would also like to thank all the volunteers who have helped our board with putting Baskets together for our raffles at our meetings, volunteering to be our point people on the New England Vendor Committee, as well as the Volunteers who have helped on our Coding Roundtable. Without these volunteers we would not be able to do as much as we do.

Now let me tell you what we have planned so far for the coming year. First we have a Coding Roundtable scheduled for January 19th at the Marriot in Rocky Hill. We are in the process of setting up the Agenda, and it should be out in the next week or so. We will have the CPT-4 update as one of the topic's. We are also looking to have another Educational Meeting either at the end of January or Beginning of February. We are working on that agenda as we speak so more to come on that.

Now let me tell you about our ICD-10 training. Currently we have the A&P course through Barry Libman that you signup for through our website and receive a 5% discount. The cost is $122.00, and $85 FOR THE BOOK. It is all web based and we think it is a very good value for the money, and a very basic first step.  I have also asked for volunteers who have completed the "Train the Trainer" program to help with our training program. I have received offers from about 7 members who are willing to help us. I am going to have a meeting with these members to develop our plan for training our members, as we go forward through the start date of 10/1/13. I hope to have a plan in place by the end of January, with dates and topic's for the whole training program.  We are also looking at doing several all day workshops that would have A&P, terminology, and hands on coding for ICD-10. Another thing we are looking at for both ICD-10 and other educational sessions would be to have some as webinars. This is something we have looked at and it seems like a way to go for us and our members.

We have also started planning the New England Conference at Mohegan Sun from 5/6/12 through 5/8/12. I can tell you we are planning on having a full day of ICD-10 training which I think will be Sunday 5/6/12. We are also doing the CCS full day Training, as well as 1/2 day session on Interventional Radiology. We are also lining up speakers on RAC/ MIC Appeals Management, Release of Information topic's, Meaningful Use, and much more. This year we also will have the Long Term Care Annual Meeting  included with our meeting. They will have their own speakers, but would be able to attend our sessions as well as the Vendor Time, and Socials. We would also be able to attend some of their sessions if we wanted. So this looks like it's shaping up to be another great conference.

Now let me tell you about a fun event that I have set up for the members. Hold date of the evening of Saturday March 17th. We are planning on having a St. Patrick's Day  get together. It will be held at Elaine's Restaurant on the Berlin Turnpike, in Berlin CT. We will have a great buffet, D.J, and many more exciting fun things. We will have more on this over the next month or so as we set it up. This should be a great night out, and a beginning to the spring after a long winter.  Another thing we are working on is a CTHIMA  On- Line Store. Here you would be able to get some CTHIMA gifts, shirts, and other CTHIMA items for yourself or staff members.

So stay tuned, as we are working hard on your behalf.   So in closing, I would like to wish each and every one of you a happy and health New Year!

Thank You.
