Akron, OH (September 10, 2010) - Are you able to fill out a bank deposit slip? What about read your child a bedtime story? This may sound like the norm to you, but for some adults, it is the single thing that is preventing them from earning their GED, getting promoted or being self-sufficient.

Project Learn of Summit County will be kicking off National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week on Monday, September 13 in the Main Library Auditorium with a celebration that commemorates the joy that comes with reading and expanding your education.

The event will feature inspirational speakers, including Summit County Executive Russ Pry, Bishop Joey Johnson from the House of the Lord, State GED Administrator Sharon Bowman, who will motivate students and attendees who have faced adversity during their academic journey.

"This is a way for our students to get excited about learning and the road ahead of them," said Rick McIntosh, Project Learn Executive Director. "We want them to understand the importance of post-secondary education and go beyond earning their GED."

Representatives from the University of Akron and Stark State College will also attend to answer questions about college transition, course offerings, and academic planning.

The event begins at 10 a.m. and is free and open to the public. For event information, contact Eileen Chou at 330-434-9461 or echou@projectlearnsummit.org.
