Dear

Myles Lynk

Greetings and welcome to the first issue of Fellows News for the 2012-2013 fiscal year!

The 2011-2012 fiscal year ended on an extraordinary note--The Fellows raised over $1.4 million dollars for the Foundation. This was the highest amount ever contributed by The Fellows to the Foundation. Congratulations!  In fact, approximately 20% of the ABF's revenue comes from The Fellows. Thank you so much for your generous contributions and your commitment to the important and groundbreaking research of the American Bar Foundation.

During my year as Chair of The Fellows I hope that together we can continue this record-breaking trend. I therefore encourage you to explore the research the Foundation's scholars are undertaking. From Professor Susan Shapiro's work on surrogate end of life decision-making, to Professor John Hagan's research on parental incarceration, our faculty community is engaged in research that is critically important, both to our profession and to society at large.

Please also note that this year we are reintroducing an old tradition in The Fellows: The Fellows pins! Years ago each Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation received a small, circular gold metal pin displaying the official seal of the Fellows, to wear with pride as a symbol of their membership in The Fellows and commitment to the ABF. Please see a picture of the pin at this link. This year, Fellows pins will be awarded to ABF Board members, Fellows officers and State Chairs,  Life Patron Fellows, Life Benefactor Fellows, and Life Leadership Fellows, who do not already have a Fellows pin. In addition, going forward Fellows who have completed their initial pledge to the Foundation and become Life Fellows will receive pins. We ask each Fellow who receives a pin to wear it with pride, particularly when attending bar association and Fellows events.

Thank you again for your support this past year. Chair-elect Don Slesnick, Secretary Cheryl Niro, and I are looking forward to another successful year! We hope you will join us at the wonderful Fellows Events we have planned during the upcoming ABA Midyear Meeting in Dallas, on February 7-10, 2013. In the meantime, please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments, or concerns you might have. We look forward to hearing from you!

With very best regards,

Montgomery Summer Research Diversity Fellowship Program 2012

The American Bar Foundation was delighted to welcome this year's recipients of the Montgomery Summer Research Diversity Fellowship Program. Chosen from a competitive nationwide pool,

the four undergraduate students spent the summer assisting

ABF research faculty with complex legal and social science research projects.

The Montgomery Summer Research Diversity Fellowship Program

is designed to introduce undergraduates from diverse backgrounds to the rewards and demands of a research-oriented career in the fields of law and social science. The ABF would like to thank the
