Dear Fellows:
The Fellows events during the ABA Midyear meeting were a great success, thanks to the venues selected by our staff, their hard work and your attendance. It was such a pleasure to see quite a few familiar faces, as well as to meet some of the new Fellows. From the New Orleans cuisine to the warm company, everything was fantastic. Although it is difficult to select my favorite moment from that week, it was definitely memorable to honor Justice Scalia, our Distinguished Honorary Fellow, Mortimer Caplin, an ABF board member who stormed the Omaha Beach on D-Day and David Gambrell, who received our Outstanding Service Award at our annual awards dinner at the terrific National World War II Museum. Be sure to visit the Fellows page to view photos. Mortimer Caplin is also featured in our newsletter below for his recent induction into the National Portrait Gallery. Planning for The Fellows events at the ABA Annual meeting is underway, and I hope you are all planning to join us in Chicago this August. This year we will have our opening reception in the gorgeous 9th Floor Club at the iconic Chicago Symphony Center. I can't think of a better way to take in some of the fantastic culture that Chicago has to offer. I hope you enjoy this issue of Fellows News and please, if you have any comments or questions, we'd love to hear from you. Please email our Fellows office at fellows@abfn.org. As always, thank you for your continued support of the American Bar Foundation. To make your 2012 contribution if you have not done so already, please visit our online giving site or call the Fellows office at (800) 292-5065. Warm regards, Doreen Dodson, Chair of The Fellows |

The American Bar Foundation (ABF) invites scholars to join our intellectual community for the 2012-2013 academic year. We encourage national and international scholars on leave or sabbatical to take advantage of our diverse community and excellent facilities. We offer an office, telephone, and computer, but no stipend.
Preference will be given to visitors whose scholarship coincides with the research agenda of the ABF, and who will be in residence full-time for all or part of the year. Summer visits are possible. Visitors are expected to participate in the intellectual life of the ABF, including a weekly seminar.
If you have an interest in this opportunity, please send an email to Robert Nelson at rnelson@abfn.org, Subject Line: Visiting Scholars Program, which states (1) the topic on which you are working, (2) the preferred dates for residence, (3) the days each week you would expect to be at the ABF, and (4) attach a CV. To receive maximum consideration, please apply by April 1st. Applications will be considered as space allows. The ABF Appointments Committee will review applications and prospective visitors will be notified accordingly.
