Dear Fellows,
Since our fiscal year began in September, The Fellows have contributed almost $1 million to support the ABF's many ongoing research projects. We all should take pride that Shari Seidmond Diamond just received the Harry Kalven, Jr. Prize from the Law and Society Association. In studying real juries in action, Shari has addressed such important questions as whether juries can effectively deliberate during a trial, whether they are unduly swayed by the presence of 'experts' on the jury, whether unanimous verdicts are more valid than non-unanimous ones, whether smaller juries can represent the diversity of their communities, and whether jurors understand and follow jury instructions. This research is critical to the functioning of our courts and has become an essential resource for proposed reforms of the jury system. Without your support, research like Shari's would not be possible. And we as a profession and a society would be lesser for it. If you have not made your contribution yet this year, please do so today. Click here to visit our online giving website. We look forward to welcoming you to Fellows Events at the upcoming ABA Annual Meeting in San Francisco. Please see below for further information. Thank you. Robert L. Nelson Director and MacCrate Research Chair, American Bar Foundation
