New Sustaining Sponsor: Associated Bank
Associated Bank recently joined The Real Estate Center as a Sustaining Sponsor with a three-year commitment of support.  Breck F Hanson, pictured at right, Executive Vice President and Head of Breck HansonCommercial Real Estate at Associated Bank, and Gregory T Warsek, Senior Vice President/Regional Manager of the Commercial Real Estate Division made the decision in December to partner with The Real Estate Center and identified Warsek to be the Center's main contact.  Warsek has been with Associated Bank more than nine years. In his current role as Senior Vice President and Regional Manager in the Commercial Real Estate Division, he manages the Chicago and St. Louis offices, and leads a team of commercial real estate professionals focused on delivering high-quality, customized real estate financing programs to clients.

GregWarsek, pictured left, is a valuable addition to the team of Sustaining Sponsors who serve as the Executive Committee and govern the direction of The Center.   Warsek says, "Associated Bank is very proud and excited to be a new sustaining sponsor for The Real Estate Center at DePaul. Graduate Students Receive Scholarships to Attend ICSC Conference
For the second consecutive year, The Real Estate Center awarded scholarships to six graduate students who will attend the ICSC conference in Las Vegas on May 22-25.  These scholarships cover travel expenses to and from the conference, hotel fees and  registration and membership costs for each student.  This is a tremendous opportunity for students to engage and network with industry professionals at one of the biggest real estate conferences in the country.

Real Estate Faculty Activities
The faculty members of the Department of Real Estate maintain public appearances in both academic and professional environments.  Recent events include:
  • Susanne E Cannon, Chairman of the Department of Real secEstate, spoke at the AIRE Lunch, Learn & Lead on Tuesday, Jan. 11 at the Rosewood Restaurant to over 150 real estate professionals about Space and Capital Markets.

  • ColeRebel Cole led an International Monetary Fund mission to Beirut, Lebanon and Damascus, Syria to assist the central banks in those countries with procedures for off-site supervision of commercial banks. Also, at the ASSAs, he presented a paper on how deposit insurance improves financial intermediation.
  • ShillingJames D Shilling presented a paper on Jan. 7 at the American Real Estate & Urban Economic Association conference in Denver.  The paper is titled REIT Resiliency and Corporate Governance.
     

  • Susanne E Cannon now serves on the Board of Directors for the Community Investment Corporation designed to be the leading force in neighborhood revitalization through innovative financial programs.
REC Launches Evening CPE Construction Project Management Program

Everything a real estate professional needs to know about construction project management

The Real Estate Center at DePaul University designed this unique, three-course evening program for real estate brokers, investors, property and asset managers, lenders, developers, junior construction managers, architects and engineers whose job performance will improve from their ability to grasp the fundamental principles and practices of construction project management. 

Courses should be completed in the following order:

Annual Commercial Real Estate Forecast Conference
The Annual Commercial Real Estate Forecast Conference produced by the Illinois Real Estate Journal returns to the Marriott Chicago for its ninth annual gathering on Jan. 18. The conference remains the longest-running and largest commercial real estate forecast in Chicago.

Like previous forecasts, the event will feature three general session panels:

1.  The Big Picture in Focus
2.  Legal Issues Impacting Real Estate
3.  Financing and Investing

Following these lead panels, there will be numerous breakout sessions focusing on various specialty areas of real estate, which will include downtown office, suburban office, industrial, retail and investment.

Confirmed speakers for the lead panel include Drew Nieman, principal, Colliers International (in his first public speaking appearance since returning from Abu Dhabi and joining Colliers); Steve Schnur, Duke Realty; Keith Stauber, SIOR, regional managing director, Jones Lang LaSalle; Bruce Duncan, president and chief executive officer, First Industrial Realty Trust; and William Rolander, The John Buck Company. Susanne Cannon of The Real Estate Center at DePaul University will moderate the panel.

Other DePaul faculty speakers include Economics Professor, Michael Miller who will open the conference with an economic outlook and Charles Wurtzebach, the George L. Ruff Visiting Professor in Real Estate Studies, who will serve on the financing and investment panel.

Registration for the event is $79. On the day of the event it increases to $109. Registration can be completed here.
