DePaul MBA Student Awarded SIOR Scholarship

The Chicago Chapter of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) and the SIOR Foundation (SIORF) awarded a $3,000 scholarship for the academic year of 2009-2010 to DePaul MBA student, Zachary Braun.

Since 1984, the SIOR Chicago Chapter has provided over $92,000 in real estate scholarships to 58 students to recognize and reward outstanding academic performance in business and real estate courses and to expose recipients to career opportunities and internship programs available within the Chicago real estate community.
 
The Chicago Chapter of SIOR 2009 Scholarship Committee included Roy Splansky, SIOR, Chairman; Sally Macoicz, SIOR; David Prioletti, SIOR and Elise Couston, SIOR.
8th Annual Commercial Real Estate Forecast Conference
 
secAt the Commercial Real Estate Forecast Conference on January 19th, Susanne Cannon, Director of The Real Estate Center, moderated the Financial Market Outlook session.  
 
The panel explored issues, trends and prospects for the investment markets in 2010.  Panelists included: John Cuticelli of Sheldon Good & Co.; Karen Case of The Private Bank; David Friedman of Wrightwood Capital; Mary Ludgin of Heitman Financial; and Robert Walter with First Industrial.
 
In addition, Cannon also led the Investment Market breakout session with panelists: Greg LaBerge, Marcus & Millichap; Brent Burden, Zifkin Realty; Brian Millberg, KTR Capital Partners; Marc Boorstein, MJ Partners; and Chad Firsel, Quantum Real Estate.
 
The Real Estate Center has been a co-host of this annual event since its inception.  This year's conference, held at the Chicago Marriott, drew a crowd of over 700 real estate professionals.
Winter Continuing Education Schedule
  
Buildings and Construction Part 2
This course will provide the student with an in-depth understanding of the parts of a building, the equipment that makes up its many building systems-structural, plumbing, fire suppression, electrical, HVAC, etc. and the materials used for its structure, roof, ceilings, floors, windows, doors, walls and surfaces.  Guidelines for selection and construction coordination will be provided.

Legal Issues in Commercial Real Estate Acquisitions
Created and taught by a leading real estate attorney with a major international law firm, this course reviews the "nuts and bolts" of a real estate transaction, from acquisition to disposition. Some of the critical issues covered include due diligence review, organization of the ownership entity, contracts with providers of professional services, debt and equity financing, and property disposition.

Fundamentals of Real Estate Finance 

This course will cover in detail the financing tools used by real estate developers and investors to finance commercial and residential real estate.  The course will also cover loan restructuring programs and loan workout options.
