| New Sustaining Sponsor: Origin Capital |
Origin Capital, a real estate investment firm that focuses on distressed opportunities in the commercial real estate market, has joined the ranks of The Real Estate Center at the Sustaining Sponsor level with a three year commitment of support.
Michael Episcope, a recent alum and principal at Origin Capital, will serve as the designated Sponsor representative for Origin. Episcope's primary responsibilities at Origin Capital include business development, loan workouts, risk analysis, and investor relations, and he has helped to form a business platform that is investor friendly, complete with the transparency he believes should be a part of all business models.
Mr. Episcope received his undergraduate degree in finance in 1994 from DePaul University and obtained his Master's of Science in Real Estate from DePaul University's Kellstadt Graduate School of Business with honors in 2008.
Sustaining Sponsors play a major role in guiding the direction of The Real Estate Center; they participate in committees that govern the Center and may serve on the executive committee. In addition, The designated Sponsor representative participates in one of six committees to help guide the direction of the Center.

| PREA Institute: Changes in Institutional Real Estate |
The Pension Real Estate Association (PREA) Institute hosted its annual All Star Symposium on June 23-24, 2009. This symposium was a part of a series of rigorous educational programs conducted by PREA in cooperation with major universities.
Dr. Charles Wurtzebach, the George L. Ruff Visiting Professor in Real Estate Studies in DePaul's Department of Real Estate, delivered a presentation to PREA members during the two day event. Dr. Wurtzebach's presentation was entitled "Changes in the Institutional Real Estate Industry." He discussed the lessons to be learned coming out of this most recent real estate cycle and how they are manifest in the institutional real estate industry. Dr. Wurtzebach maintains that the "new lessons" being learned will be dominated by "old lessons" and the industry will have to go back to basics to be successful. He believes major changes will also happen to the organizational structure of real estate investment managers. Dr. Wurtzebach suggests that the roles of portfolio, asset and property manager will increasingly be pushed down to the property level. Also, the financial strength and sponsorship of investment managers will be tested and the advisor-investor relationship will evolve going forward. |
