New Sustaining Sponsor Supports the Real Estate Center 
 
The Real Estate Center is pleased to announce George Kohlthat CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) is

REC Hires Valuable Resource for Students
  
24-Hour CitySteve Bell, who has been an adjunct faculty member teaching undergraduate and graduate classes for the past nine years, will be joining The Real Estate Center full time in September as a faculty member and associate director. In the latter capacity he will take on responsibilities for coordinating our mentoring, internship, and placement efforts. Over the past 20 years, Steve has worked here in Chicago as Vice President for Development for Brookfield Properties, where he developed the high rise mixed use retail and condo project Chicago Place on Michigan Avenue and also Quaker Tower; for the past several years at CB Richard Ellis he has been working at a senior level in asset services, overseeing the management, leasing, and construction and facilities management for a large portfolio of office and industrial buildings in the Chicago region. Steve has had a distinguished career in real estate and he brings that knowledge and his professional network to DePaul. He earned his MBA and Masters of Engineering from Cornell University and also holds a Masters in Architecture from the University of Kansas.

SUSTAINABLE BUILDING: CONCEPTS, BENEFITS & RISKS

Course Description
Sustainability has become inescapable in the language of business and the media.  What does it mean and how can a decision-maker separate fact from fiction?  This two-day course provides a highly focused and challenging introduction to the conceptualization and delivery of sustainable buildings.  Created for professionals and decision-makers in real estate, architecture, engineering, government and the private sector, the program covers the intellectual fundamentals of sustainability, real estate valuation of sustainable buildings, rating systems, legal and business risk management for sustainable practices, and cost-benefit analysis.
 
Registration closes October 23rd.  No walk-n or day of registrations will be taken.

Building Business Etiquette for Students
 
DePaul real estate students are not only prepared academically for a successful career in real estate; they are also armed with skills that will help them make a positive and lasting first impression at interviews, business meetings and networking receptions.  To build students' awareness of business etiquette and protocol, The Real Estate Center is hosting two events:
  • Dress for the Job You Want.  Personal Boat trip 2Stylist, Noelle Cellini, will engage students with activities that will demonstrate the do's and do not's of dressing for the job.  Using images from the media and role playing exercises, students will learn how to "dress for success" and "what not to wear" to interviews and on the job.  She will also introduce an approach to building a core professional wardrobe for both men and women.

  • Networking & Dining Tutorial presented by Gloria Petersen, GloriaPresident of Global Protocol, Inc.  This combination program includes exercises for mixing and mingling strategically at networking receptions, along with an etiquette dinner to review table manners, business protocol, selecting the right utensil, eating difficult food, ordering and tasting wine, managing problems with service and the bill, and leading conversation at a client dinner.

Upcoming Degree Information Sessions 
 
The Real Estate Center will be hosting several information sessions for those who are interested in earning an MBA -Real Estate Finance & Investment degree; a Masters of Science in Real Estate degree or a Bachelors of Science in Commerce Real Estate Major.  These informal meetings will be a prime opportunity for prospective students to meet faculty and admissions staff while gaining a greater understanding of the real estate graduate degree programs.
