Real Estate Students Awarded Scholarships |
|
Congratulations to the scholarship recipients for the 2007/2008 academic year. The following winners were announced at the annual spring sponsor event held June 21st aboard the Chicago's First Lady:
Undergraduate Recipients:
- The Robert Weitzman Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Daniel Graca in the amount of $4000

- The Josie Carlson Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Dan St. John and Stefani Markovic--both receiving $2000
Graduate Recipients:
- MB Charitable Foundation Scholarship went to Matt Swanson in the amount of $2500
- Kenneth McHugh Endowed Scholarship was awarded to Erica Wilms in the amount of $2500
- The Michael J. Horne Endowed Scholarship was awarded to four graduate students, each receiving $2500: Staci Cohen, Rebecca Fuller, Marcus Hale and Michael Scherer

On June 21st, 150 sponsors, students, alumni and friends of The Real Estate Center enjoyed a Chicago River architecture tour led by Mary Ludgin, managing director at Heitman. Thanks to all who came out to enjoy the evening.

Media Interest in Affordable Rental Housing Initiative |

Three new stories about DePaul and the Preservation Compact have hit the newsstands and airways during the last week:
· NPR's "All Things Considered" broadcast a national story about the initiative on June 20th. Real Estate Center Director Susanne Cannon was interviewed and the center's study and project role was discussed. Listen to the broadcast.
- The study was also featured in an Illinois Real Estate Journal story issued Tuesday, June 19th. Read the full story.
- Finally, on June 15th, the Sun-Times real estate section published a page 1 column by editor Sally Duros that discussed the center's research findings and the affordable rental housing preservation project. Read the full story.

| 2007 Mid-Year Update & Forecast |

On Thursday, June 28th, REIA and The Real Estate Center will provide an exciting mid-year report on real estate activity since January 1, 2007. In addition, they will forecast the remaining year with three panel discussions featuring prominent real estate professionals.
Panels include: What's Real About "GREEN?", moderated by Susanne Cannon; The Housing Bubble, Commodity Costs and Global Trade: What do they have in Common?, moderated by Jerome Finis, President at Pathway Senior Living, LLC and Going Private, Staying Public: That is the Question. What is the Answer?, moderated by Neil Freeman, President, Aries Capital.
Featured panelists are:Dr. Ujjval Vyas, Principal, Alberti Group; Vuk Vujovich, Director of Sustainable Design, Legat Architects, Inc.; Dan Walsh, President, Walsh Construction; David Hill, Chairman, Kimball Hill Homes; David Neithercut, President and CEO, Equity Residential Properties Trust; Paul Fisher, President, Centerpoint Properties and K. Jay Weaver, Principal, Walton Street Capital.
