Today we Baptize Avy Jacqueline Weinhandl, daughter of Mark and Melissa Weinhandl.  Avy's baptismal sponsors are John Pederson and Maisi Pederson. Welcome, child of God!

The annual Lutheran Night at the Twins ticket sign up is available today. We'll cheer on our Minnesota Twins as they battle the Baltimore Orioles on August 26 at the Metrodome. Plan to join other members of Peace as we bus together to the Metrodome.

Plans are being made for the OWLS to attend the Plymouth Playhouse to see "Church Basement Ladies 2: A Second Helping" the evening of September 10, 2009. Tickets are $25. each, and will be sold after services August 9, 16 and 23, by Gail Anderson and Marilyn Teske.  If we have over 30 people attending, the price will be reduced to $24 each.

Middle School Boredom Busters!  Meet this Wednesday, August 12, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. This event is for all new 6th -8th graders.  Call Pastor Jeff at 612-709-1431 if you need a ride!  We will watch a movie in the Fireside Room and make ice cream sundaes for dessert.  Come out for fun and invite a friend, as well!

It's Newsletter time again! The deadline for the September Peace Notes is Saturday, August 15.

Sunday, August 16:  Join us for a contemporary styleworship service led by electric guitar and drums.  Three of our high school students, along with Pastor Jeff, will lead worship for the morning. You will recognize many of the songs.  Meet with us for a high-energy, spirit filled morning.

All are invited to the Peace Lutheran Church picnic, next Sunday, from 11 am to 2 pm.  We will meet at the Hamel Community Center for lunch and outdoor games and fun.  Church will provide the lunch meat, cheese, buns and condiments.  Please bring: your own drinks, plates, tableware and a salad, chips, or dessert to share. If you have any questions, please call Melissa Weinhandl at (952) 484-9859 for more information.

Openings for Sunday School Teachers: We are in need of two team teachers, one for the combined classes of 4th /5th grade and one for the 6th /7th graders.  Team teaching is very flexible, and teachers make their own schedule together.  Classes begin September 13 at 9:35 am. Please contact Carol Forsberg (763) 559-2216 if you are interested.

Altar Flowers are given in memory of Eunice Peterson, by Don Peterson.

SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE AUGUST NEED-OF-THE-MONTH

There are two more weeks left to donate school supplies to IOCP's annual Back To School! Program.  Bags with the list of needed supplies will be handed out after the worship service today.  Please help a well deserving student start the school year out right!

Lost and Found! Did you ever participate in the Fall Bob's Sleep Out?  And did you bring a tent to sleep in that night?  Because, someone's tent poles were FOUND when the Sater's recently went camping.  Now think back a couple of years (!) or check your tenting bag for missing tent poles!  Contact Joe or Jackie at 478-9442.

A note of precaution:

Since the H1N1 pandemic has been officially declared, we are taking a few precautions at worship.  At Holy Communion, servers are taking care to clean their hands with sanitizer.  But if you have added concerns, it is permissible to receive the wine only (served in individual glasses).

For awhile we have set aside the 'Sharing of the Peace' during the liturgy.  And, the Pastors will not be offended if you do not shake their hand after worship.  A kind nod and greeting is quite acceptable.  We pray that this pandemic will not be severe and will pass quickly.
