SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE AUGUST NEED-OF-THE-MONTH

IOCP is recruiting school supplies and volunteers to staff the August Back To School! Program.  Families living in IOCP's service area who are financially challenged by the cost of school supplies are eligible to participate.

We invite you to help by donating suggested supplies or making a financial contribution.  Please bring supplies to the table in the Narthex from now through Friday, August 21. IOCP is also looking for volunteers to help with donation drop off, set up, distribution and tear down. Call Susan Fetterer at IOCP (952-516-6061) if you'd like to volunteer. You will find a list of volunteer hours and needed supplies at the donation table in the narthex.

INTERFAITH OUTREACH AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Daily Devotional booklets are available for July, August and September of 2009.  Our resources include The Word in Season and Christ in Our Home (large print copies available).

Summer is half way over.  Have you fulfilled your promise to "escape" the hectic pace and get some alone time? This month's Metro Lutheran suggests some retreat centers that are "Lutheran" friendly, where one can go for some individual or group time to reflect, pray, and revitalize.  Copies are available at the Information Center or in the church office.

A note of precaution:

Since the H1N1 pandemic has been officially declared, we are taking a few precautions at worship.  At Holy Communion, servers are taking care to clean their hands with sanitizer.  But if you have added concerns, it is permissible to receive the wine only (served in individual glasses).

For awhile we have set aside the 'Sharing of the Peace' during the liturgy.  And, the Pastors will not be offended if you do not shake their hand after worship.  A kind nod and greeting is quite acceptable.  We pray that this pandemic will not be severe and will pass quickly.
