Be Extraordinary

Greg Wright

One of the central themes of the film is the nature of genius: Are extraordinary people aware that they are extraordinary? And if they are, how driven are they to fulfill their potential? How much do they fear it?

Very Interesting Stuff

Dice

The mind of P.T. Anderson is a really strange place. And this is a purposely shocking look at religion, among other things. There are great performances here from Hoffman and Phoenix... and it just smells like "Oscar." But is there really a masterwork buried here beneath the style?

Too Good to Be True?

Greg Wright

In 2004, seven-year-old Zach used his red wagon to collect supplies to use in relief of victims of Hurricane Charley. Within a year, he had established a certified nonprofit organization to help homeless children. By the time he was twelve, a film was in production about the story.

Family Entertainment and Faith-Based Summit
Building Bridges
Industry and Audience... Together?

Back in June, Variety partnered with publicity firm Rogers & Cowan to produce what I hope will become an annual event: The Family Entertainment and Faith-Based Summit. Its stated purpose, to "look at the business of television and film product that is created for families and faith-based audiences. The Summit will explore the development, production and marketing of this content and look into the future of these markets."

Participants in the Summit reads like a Who's Who of Faith-market production...

Rogue Saints
Coming to DVD October 16

HJ Staffer Melinda Ledman caught this, uh, little gem of a film at a Christian film festival earlier this year and recommends it highly. "It's awesome!" she says. "Really, really funny. A spoof on church by church people (meaning it's not hateful toward Christians, just funny)."

The Miracle of Marcelino

I recently had the chance to talk by telephone with Gotham Chopra, director of Decoding Deepak, a documentary focusing on his father, Deepak Chopra. Deepak Chopra is a well-known writer who has helped popularize a mixing of Eastern and Western thought. The elder Chopra has written scores of books about the spiritual nature of life and success.

On Monday I had the privilege of attending the unveiling of a blue plaque to commemorate the one year which J.R.R. Tolkien spent living at number 2 Darnley Road, Leeds.

Reflections on the Rings

As I grew older, I discovered that I was not as far from Middle-earth as I once thought. In fact Middle-earth was my world rendered in a way that allowed me to grasp the spiritual truths I could not otherwise understand. When reading the Rings, I saw my own world clearly for the first time. (Special report from E. Biswell.)

Michael P. Mordenga

The new Hobbit movie has spawned some video game releases to go along with the multimillion dollar movie.  New Line Cinema has given the green light to these projects, hoping to get a wider audience. Through the use of mobile gaming and the use of Kinect, The Hobbit has a wide array of game choices to pick from.

We at Hollywood Jesus got a chance to see some of the game ideas that passed by Peter Jackson's desk.

Skyfall
10/01/12 | Comment Here

When the news broke that Daniel Craig would be succeeding Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, it seemed highly improbable. He is, of course, blond, not dark-haired. He had starred in Layer Cake, which lent itself to being hard to understand, and hardly debonair.

How could an actor of no real background be the "tall, dark, and handsome" ruffian that had held our attention since Bond first played cards in 1962?

Doing More, Not Better

Darrel Manson

The main problem, according to the filmmakers, is that we really don't have a healthcare system, we have a disease care system. We spend vast amounts of money on disease intervention but almost nothing on prevention.

Now on Blu-ray. You ought to own this to rewatch on cloudy days, and upside down moments. It's a reminder that we are watched over by a greater power, an awesome hope, and the legends of our lives remain unwritten.
