Hellbound? Hellbound?

Can God and Hell Coexist?

Darrel Manson

We may think that justice or even the idea of morality requires some sort of Hell. But is a God who creates a Hell and sends people there without escape the kind of God we really believe in? Hellbound? is a new documentary from Kevin Miller that looks at this theological question.

Kirk Douglas: Star & Philanthropist
Yes, Rich People Can Care, Too

Especially in today's charged haves-vs.-have-nots climate, the "conventional wisdom" is that rich people are insufferably selfish, and that Hollywood people in particular are hopelessy out of touch with the realities of hardship.

I was particularly pleased, as a consequence, to run across a press release about the generosity of actor Kirk Douglas... who has not always been at the top of my People Most Likely to Be Generous list.

Why? you may ask.

Because! I respond.

Because I've got prejudices like everyone else.

But here's the (apparently) real deal: Kirk Douglas and his wife Anne have been supporting the Los Angeles Mission to the homeless for over twenty years.... Click for More

The Hobbit Turns 75
09/21/12 | Comment Here

Today, September 21, 2012, marks the 75th anniversary of the first publication of JRR Tolkien's famous children's novel, The Hobbit. With the upcoming trilogy of movies by Peter Jackson, Tolkien's tale is getting quite a bit of buzz online, including a five minute video from the WSJ.com.

Today, the online version of The Wall Street Journal featured the book in the first five minutes of their Lunch Break videocast. Wendy Bounds and Christopher Farley talk about whether the movies will be able to live up to the book...

Les Misérables Won't Open Head-to-Head with Hobbit

Tuesday Universal Studios announced the opening for Les Misérables would be moved from December 14 to Christmas Day. Speculation around the Internet is that part of the reason for the move was to avoid a head-to-head competition with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. I'm excited to see both movies.

Can you be Christian and Pro-Ring?
09/21/12 |  Commentary, Satire | Comment

Michael P. MordengaThe gloves came off in the political arena when both candidates for presidency aired their views on Ring use.

The One Ring to rule them all, apparently, has created a huge ripple in culture over the question of whether Ring use should be legal or banned.  Right now our jails are 75% full of Ring Dealers who believe it should be legal.  While most senators and congressmen are confused and split on the issue, Romney and Obama know exactly where they stand.

Romney spilled his views immediately on a CNN exclusive when he said that he was Pro-Mordor (those who wish to throw the Ring into Mount Doom in Mordor).  His explanation is just what the Republican Right wanted to hear-the Ring is dangerous and unregulated...

Spiritual History of Bond,
Part IV: Timothy Dalton
Bond the Avenger
09/18/12 | Comment Here

Timothy Dalton lasted just a movie longer than George Lazenby, but his portrayal of James Bond was ultimately so different from Roger Moore's that he set a new precedent for the violence and toughness that the hard-nosed spy exhibited on screen.

The final two films by Director John Glen for the Bond franchise were high octane events and ratcheted up the violence that Bond encountered in his villains and inflicted on them in response. But was there more to Dalton's Bond than violence and anger?
