The Dark Knight Rises The Dark Knight Rises

What Broken Heroes Do

Brian Dedmon

Here we find a new Bruce Wayne; he is forlorn over the death of Rachel Dawes at the hands of the Joker, he has taken the full weight of Harvey Dent's fate onto himself, and he considers himself retired from his days of vigilante justice.

Katy Perry: Part of Me Katy Perry: Part of Me

Dice, Your Movie Friend

Concert films have become about more than just recording the performance. Now they tell the story of the concert, too. Is it worth hearing about Katy Perry's latest tour? Maybe if they put more effort into the 3D presentation.

"Love stories seem to be messy, don't they? They are for me," says Beaufoy. "The great stories are always messy -- the great love stories. I think if it's easy for love to flourish without challenges then it's not really great love. Love under pressure, under duress, under challenge, that's when you start to see whether it's a great love or not."

Living the Dream

Darrel Manson

Does materialism and the role it plays in the American Dream affect us just as it affects the Siegels? We may not be able to afford the lavish lifestyle they live (which is also what they sell), but we do yearn for things to be just a bit bigger and better in our lives.

What Should We Think Post-ComiCon? Same As in 2007?

Given that The Lord of the Rings has already come to the screen (and stupendously so), we have already seen how blithe young Hobbits such as Pippin must learn to become grave warriors; we have already witnessed the darkness of battles like that at the Pelennor; through Théoden, we have already witnessed sleepers waking to the harsh reality of betrayal and self-deception; we have, in short, already lost the innocence of Middle-earth. Trying to recapture it, on a scale that would duplicate the boxoffice success of Rings, would be a bit like returning to fifth-grade summer camp after a stint in college.

We Are The Gatekeepers
Try and get past us

Blogger Rachel Held Evans posted an enlightening article a few weeks ago in response to LifeWay Christian Stores' decision to stop carrying the film The Blind Side due to objectionable language and content.  In it, she asserted that "Christian bookstores have a chokehold on the Christian publishing industry . . . [And] as a result, the entire Christian industry has been sanitized, while its best artists look elsewhere for publication."

Why?  Gatekeepers.

Have Christian bookstores become a place of sanitized truth and knick-knacks?Have movies in general become testaments of sex and violence due to their own gatekeepers?

The Three Stooges The Three Stooges

An Homage

Nate Watts

Now on Blu-ray. I didn't even mind the Jersey Shore cast all that much, just because you get to see Moe smack them around a bit, but the real fun is getting to see Hayes, Sasso, and Diamantopoulos so perfectly embody the original trio.
