The Iron Lady
Leading with Pearls and Power Elisabeth Leitch
There's something to be said about Thatcher's unwavering certainty and commitment to the values she held to be true. However, alone, the rigid, unyielding character of the woman known as the Iron Lady is also difficult to keep on swallowing.

Darrel's Dirty Dozen

It's Double-Duty for 2011's Best Films
I want to do something to help out the economy.
Since this has been a pretty good year for films, I've decided to offer you a BOGO on this year's Darrel's Dozen.
That's right, if you make it through my yearly list of twelve films of note, you'll get another dozen for no extra charge!
As I said, I found this to be a very good year for films. Each year I give a grade and the last few years have shown steady progress from a D in 2008 to this year's A-. All of the films in both dozens could easily make Darrel's Dozen films in most years.
That there are so many worthy films is one of the reasons I've given you an extra dozen this year. But also when you look at the very top, any of my top four could be worthy of the #1 slot.

Addiction Incorporated
Do-Gooder Scientist Darrel Manson
"We submitted our paper to the scientists," says DeNoble, "and we had to convince them that the paper wasn't going to be a threat to the company. We managed to do that. It took us almost a year.
"They sent it to the legal department. The legal department said, 'We don't want to do that. You're crazy.' Then they said, 'Listen. Change some words. Don't call it a drug; call it a compound. Make it nicer and sweeter and we'll let you publish it.'"

Jessica Simpson What I Like(d) About Her Sarah Brock
I feel like what once made Jessica unique is now gone and she's starting to blend in with Hollywood. Kind of a bummer.
So, what's my advice to you, then? Not everyone reading this will be going into a career in entertainment, but I still have something to say. Stick with the LORD. Back when I did a few Alabama indie films, I was a little too concerned about what looked good on camera rather than what pleased Jesus. Now I know better. After all, it says in the Bible, "Do not store up riches for yourselves here on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and robbers break in and steal. Instead, store up riches for yourselves in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and robbers cannot break in and steal. For your heart will always be where your riches are." -Matthew 6:19-21 |
