Burlap to Cashmere Reunited
Nate Watts, Music Editor

After a thirteen year hiatus from the music world, Burlap to Cashmere has recently announced on their MySpace page that they are "officially back together."

The band, who seamlessly blends traditional folk, Christian rock, and world music, first hit the scene with their debut album Anybody Out There? back in 1998, and spawned big singles like "Basic Instructions," "Chop Chop," and "Treasures in Heaven."

After a Dove Award for "Best Rock Album of the Year," fans everywhere were disappointed to learn that the group had burnt out, and was breaking up after just one album.

Lead singer Stephen Delopoulos had a solo disc in 2003, but aside from that, the guys were relatively quiet. Now, over a decade since their groundbreaking first and last album, Burlap to Cashmere has revealed that a new album will be out July 19th, and that they will begin an extensive tour soon as well.

Check out their website to sign up for their mailing list and more info, and definitely check out their video for the new song "Build a Wall."

Stay tuned for more coverage from HJ...

Born This Way

Lady Gaga

Born This Way
Nothing new under the sun...
Nate Watts | 05/25/11 | Comment

I'm about to go all prophetic on you... do you want to know what's going to be played on the radio for the next year or so? Look no further than the fourteen tracks on Lady Gaga's newest disc, Born This Way.

Love her or hate her, she has built up enough of a fanbase, and continues publicity stunt after bizarre costume, to where she's a pretty sure thing until there comes along someone a little kookier.

So, how long before the world burns out on Ms. Stefani Germanotta? I think at this rate, it's only a matter of time. In our publicity-filled culture, seeing her newest release marketed by Amazon's $0.99 special (which crashed their new Cloud Music server for part of the day), Starbucks' "Gaga Day" teaming, and even ads on popular videogames like Words With Friends and Farmville, it could be even sooner than all that.

Especially since this much anticipated new disc will probably disappoint a lot of her fans...

Augustana: Self Titled

Dan Layus

Live with
Augustana's Frontman

Discussing new self-titled album
Erin Warkentin | 04/06/11

Hollywood Jesus: You seem to have matured a lot since your debut album. What do you think sets this record apart creatively from the first two?

Dan Layus: There's a lot that went into this record that maybe didn't go into the previous records. First of all, just time. We put a lot more time and energy into the whole process from the ground up, dotting the i's and crossing the t's.

HJ: What were some new things you wanted to try on this disc to expand your musical scope?

DL: We wanted to bridge the gap that I felt existed between what we do live as a band, which is more raw, emotional, spontaneous, and off the cuff. There are a lot of good mistakes when we play live. A lot of things that you kind of go, "Oh that was really great, don't know if I'll be able to re-produce that again, but that was sort of a cool mistake." And I think that was something that we wanted to capture on the record to have the freedom and the focus to notice when it was a special performance of a take.
