3 SecondsFeatured Review:
Roslund and Hellstrom's
3 Seconds

Trading One Family
For Another

Jacob Sahms | 02/02/11 | Comment

Piet "Paula" Hoffman is a career criminal with a history of drug abuse, really. He's a doting father of two young boys, and a loving husband to his wife, really.

But he's also an undercover police operative/informant who is fronting a drug operation for the Swedish police, and the reality he lives in begins to fragment and crash together, leaving him stuck between the police and the mob.

It's the backbone of Anders Roslund and Borge Hellstrom's first
novel to be translated into English and it's definitely worth the trip.

I'm not sure why but 3 Seconds caught my eye one day in the bookstore and I figured I'd give it a spin. What I found was a book that immediately interested me, drawing me in with Hoffman's exposure to a murder he can't prevent while undercover, and then slowing down to provide readers with background and substance about what Hoffman's up to and how he gets to where he's going...

Hogwarts Expressions

Hollywood Jesus is providing special coverage of the Harry Potter series in conjunction with the release of the last two movies.  Chelsea Rae Nagy is a recent college graduate who has read all seven books at least nine times and knows them like the back of her hand. Chelsea will be sharing an overview of the series with her spiritual reflections on the books. Why would a committed Christian devote so much time to a set of books about "wizards" and "witchcraft"? Be sure to follow coverage and find out.

Considering what Harry comes from, his experiences with his family and his Aunt Marge, it should be hard for him to trust people. You would expect someone from that background to be stunted in many ways.

We already know he has found close friends at Hogwarts in Ron and Hermione, and he trusts Dumbledore. The three of them are all dependable, and there is no known reason to not trust them.

Harry finishes the summer living in The Leaky Cauldron, doing his homework with the help of Florean Fortesque, a local ice-cream shop owner, and becoming well acquainted with all of the shops and store owners. On the last day, Hermione and the Weasleys show up to buy their school supplies and stay in the same inn as Harry.

Late that night, while everyone is packing, Harry runs down to the dining room to grab something of Ron's for him and overhears Mr and Mrs Weasley arguing. He goes to pass them by when he hears his own name and stops.

Molly and Arthur Weasley are discussing the recent jailbreak from the wizarding prison, Azkaban. Sirius Black, an insane former Death Eater, is pursuing Harry. Blamed for Voldemort's fall, he thinks killing Harry will bring him back...

There is probably no one better qualified than Mark Joseph to write a book about how The Chronicles of Narnia finally got made into a Hollywood movie. Joseph worked in development and marketing during the years The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was being created, so he has intimate knowledge of what went down.

Carl McComan's The Lion, the Mouse and the Dawn Treader: Spiritual Lessons from C. S. Lewis's Narnia is definitely profitable for anyone looking to find deeper meaning in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Walking through the first three Chronicles with Dr. Brown has been been a rich experience. It reminds me that there is so much more to these stories than can ever be depicted in a movie.
