Madden 11, and More Quiet August? Just the Calm Before the Storm... Yo, Playbox Editor
Madden may the biggest release this month, but there are others we're working on. Believe it or not, we're going to give Gold's Gym Dance Workout a spin. You might remember that we actually enjoyed the last Gold's Gym game, Cardio Boxing. It
was a fun game and a decent workout, so we'll see if Gold's Gym can
combine those two again as they help us get our groove on with an
all-new dance workout. Plus, I could really use some tips on how to
dance. My moves now look like full-body dry heaves... not pretty.
At the end of the month we'll get our hands on the
new Metroid game being developed by Team Ninja. There have been some
concerns that the focus may push more towards action than a "real"
Metroid game should have with the makers of Dead Or Alive
working on this one. However, early previews suggest it stills
maintains a Metroid feel while infusing it with a shot of adrenaline.
We'll see whether or not this latest entry in the franchise can live up
to its namesake when Metroid: Other M drops at the end of the month. Other big news this month: Playbox editor Mike
picked up a PS3 recently. Yup, faithful Playbox readers, that means
we'll finally have some consistent coverage of PS3 titles... Click through for more about What Would Tebow Do?, Halo, and more... |

Madden Reaches Out To The Casual Fan Yes football fans, it's finally that time of year again. The NFL
preseason is under way. Fans are debating which rookies will make the
biggest impact, which teams made the best off-season moves, and of
course which teams will make it to the Super Bowl. Not to mention the
fact that fantasy football leagues are also gearing up for another
season.
Well, one of my favorite forms of fantasy football is the
annual release of Madden. Granted some years it's better than others. I
can even remember a year when I skipped buying a new version just
because I didn't think the improvements were that much of an
improvement (that was the year of the infamous "QB vision cone"). Well Madden 11
introduces a couple new elements, makes a few tweaks, and is obviously
trying to pull in the more casual football fan. For the most part, the
changes are good and make for a better game... for the most part. First and foremost I should perhaps mention that like NCAA 11, if you plan to rent this game or buy it used, beware that online access will come at a price... |

Welcome to another season of football, and our own weekly predictions via Madden 11.
As you may or may not know, I am a big Broncos fan. That being the
case, one of the biggest events of the off season was Denver drafting
Tim Tebow. Tebow-mania has struck Colorado and the nation at large; his
jersey is now the best-selling jersey in the country, and he hasn't
even thrown a pass. Gotta love the hype.
A lot of Denver fans would love to see Tebow get under center and
lead the Broncos to Super Bowl glory, and they'd like to see that
sooner rather than later. Personally, I'm not one of those. Yes I'm a
Denver fan, but I'm not all that anxious for Tebow to take the reins.
Give the kid some time to learn and develop. I'd be perfectly happy if
he didn't take a snap until late next season or maybe even the season
after. However, that's not the way most fans feel. They want to see
Tebow play, and they want to see him play now.
Well, that's why we have Madden 11. This season's weekly
football feature is called WWTD?, or What Would Tebow Do? Each week
we'll sim Denver's game with the slight modification of having Tim
under center. Can virtual Tebow lead the Broncos to more victories than
the real team? Would having him quarterback really make a difference?
Let's find out, shall we?
Just an FYI, all of our games will have me playing as the Broncos,
which means my choices, which aren't necessarily the same one's an
actual coach or player would make, sort of skew the results; so take
all of this with a grain of salt. Also, I'll play all games on the
All-Pro setting with five minute quarters and using (for the most part)
the GameFlow and GamePlanning features of this year's Madden.
Finally, for the preseason games, I'll start with Orton in the first
half and sub in Tebow in the second half, just for the sake of
comparison both in the game and with whathappens on the field. It should be an interesting journey, so, are you ready for some football?
