Dawn Treader Trailer Now Available at Hollywood Jesus
Pastors and other church leaders: Would you like to show a high resolution trailer of the upcoming Narnia movie to your congregation this weekend? Check out NarniaFaith.com.
----------------------------------------------
Hollywood Jesus is proud to be chosen as an official site where the trailer can be viewed.
We have been following the Walden Media Chronicles of Narnia series since the beginning. Coverage has included both news about the movies and Feature articles about the books. This year, Mark Sommer has been reviewing the BBC-TV adaptations of the Chronicles, as well as the two Radio Drama series based on the books.
Here are some interesting facts from the studio about this weekend's release of the trailer:
More
than 150 participating faith-based online and television outlets, along
with the official Narnia Facebook site, will exclusively debut the
first trailer of THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER before it goes into
theatres on June 18. On
Thursday June 17, these outlets will debut the trailer at 12:00PM EST
(9:00AM PST). This is the latest trailer from the classic C.S. Lewis
book series, The Chronicles of Narnia. On
December 10th, THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER returns to the magic and
wonder of C.S. Lewis' beloved world - via the fantastic Narnian ship,
the Dawn Treader. In this new installment of the blockbuster The
Chronicles of Narnia motion picture franchise, Edmund and Lucy
Pevensie, along with their cousin Eustace and their royal friend King
Caspian, find themselves swallowed into a painting and on to the Dawn
Treader. As they embark on an incredible adventure of destiny and
discovery, they confront obstacles beyond imagination.
Ernie Malik, publicist for the Voyage of the Dawn Treader movie, has updated his behind-the-scenes-at-the-Dawn-Treader-set Blog on the Official Voyage of the Dawn Treader movie Facebook page. (You don't have to be a member of Facebook to view the Official page.)
Fans of The Chronicles of Narnia were a bit shocked Saturday by pictures of a Dawn Treader display board which appeared on Facebook. The display includes an image of Tilda Swinton as the White Witch.
Did the radio dramatizations capture what Lewis was trying to teach
through Lucy and Eustace, or did they miss it? See what Fantasy Editor
Mark Sommer has to say.
Those who have adapted Prince Caspian for the stage, TV,
movies, or radio, have had to decide how to deal with the story within
a story.... But... Perhaps Lewis knew what he was doing after all.
What is it about 3-D? Those new polarized glasses seem to have people, well... polarized.
Roger Ebert, long-time film critic for The Chicago Sun-Times (also famous as half of the original team for PBS's At the Movies and the later syndicated show, Siskel and Ebert), caused quite a stir with his Newsweek article last month, Why I Hate 3-D (And You Should Too).
It didn't help matters that the title was is a bit of an overstatement
compared to what he wrote. A careful reading indicates that he does see
some use for 3-D... just not in any movie that should be taken
seriously. (See the end of this article for links to some online
responses.)
Mark Kermode, in his video essay on the 3-D debate, which focuses on the movie Avatar (James
Cameron), concludes that what made the movie work was not the 3-D
effects, but the story itself. He believes flat is the future.
But it seems the band wagon, with the promise of enhanced box office figures, is too tempting to miss...

The Economics of Hobbits & Elves
06/11/10 | Comment Here Of course, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings were
not written as economic allegories. We were reminded that Tolkien is
best enjoyed for its artistic merits and the story itself. But the
views of the author cannot help but come through.
06/08/10 | Comment Here Sunday night Guillermo del Toro stopped by TheOneRing.net's Forum to
explain (somewhat) why he is leaving the Hobbit project. But as the
title of Adam B. Vary's Entertainment Weekly article puts it: Del
Toro's explanation just leaves us with more questions.
06/04/10 | Comment Here The Lord of the Rings was not popular because of its
Director. (Peter Jackson was relatively unknown in 1999.) It killed at
the box office because of the popularity of JRR Tolkien and the quality
of the films.
06/01/10 | 1 Comment "Guillermo del Toro is stepping down as Director of the Hobbit
movies. ... Jackson... would not rule out directing the films himself..."
HJ's Managing Editor Greg Wright has a suggestion. Click through to
find out who he thinks would be perfect to fill the bill.
05/31/10 | 2 Comments Guillermo del Toro, who has spent the last two years helping Peter
Jackson write and develop the upcoming Hobbit films, has decided to
leave the project.

Join host Andrew Townsend and editor Mark Sommer as they bring you a thorough and fresh analysis of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic fantasy novel.
We've just had a general election in the United Kingdom and there
was much talk of the elephant in the room if a big subject was ignored
in a discussion.... on re-reading Chapter 7, it became obvious that we
have to look at the most important of all Old English stories, that of
Beowulf, dragon fighter and slayer of monsters.
