Comin' Down the Pike
Jesse Johnson, Comics Editor Greetings all, from the wild world of Comics!
A ton of exciting
things in the comics universe right now. Summer blockbusters, big
crossovers, and the return of Bruce Wayne (he died about a year ago for
those out of the DC loop)!
We've got coverage on the latest story arcs
from Marvel and DC as they start up and wind down. Plus, tons of indie
comics coverage as we add content from Top Cow and Alterna Comics to the
mix.
Please give our latest contributor, Arnaldo Reyes, a warm
welcome. He's doing an awesome job, and really bringing a fresh
perspective to the comics section. You can check out his blog at Comics, Faith and More, plus his author archive page at HJ Live!
We've
got comics coming out our ears from most of the major and minor
independent publishers (e.g. Dark Horse, IDW, Top Cow, Red5, Viper,
etc.), so if anyone is interested in free comics, don't hesitate to
ask! Also, if you're in the Chicago area, we'll be cruising and
perusing the Chicago Comic Con this fall, so look for us there.

Jacob Sahms The Boondock Saints are everywhere.
This time, the creator and author behind The Boondock Saints movies
has brought the McManus brothers, Connor and Murphy, to the pages of
their own comic book. To the delight of fans everywhere, Rocco returns
as well. Needless to say, this is a story that didn't appear in either
of the films, and finds the Saints committing a hit on a drug ship,
intent on unleashing cocaine on Boston's streets. The comic is funny, perverse, and violent... just like the movies. Of
course, when attacking a boat full of drug dealers, the possibility of
being at sea should be obvious.

Yaholo The series' first issue seems to be all about nostalgia.
The
character we spend the most time with is Jasper Fizzle, a middle-aged
man obsessed (to the point of nearing delusion) with the wonderful
world of Oz. His son, Frank Fizzle, who I assume is the future main
character, is fed up with his father's inability to cope with real
life. Jasper spends all his time writing new stories about Oz (which
are consistently described as terrible by the supporting cast of
characters). It's a very confusing start to a comic series...

Nate Watts | 05/11/10 | Click to CommentGreat principles and moral messages are
included using the individual strengths we are given to work together
as team, and even putting aside differences for the greater good. The
series lasted five seasons and paved the way for the three blockbuster
movies and season five is now available on DVD to complete the
collection.
