Dear Valued Subscriber
With many good events coming up it is sometimes very difficult for us to choose which ones to attend. I believe you have the same feeling as I do, feeling left out if we miss any. International Aquafeed team members always try to attend as many events as we can, in addition to distributing our magazines through our event partners.
3,000 of our magazines are already on the way to Prague ready for AQUA 2012. If you are attending this event you should receive a copy. Or why not pop over to booth no 65 to meet some of the team. To support this event we are giving any visitor that comes to our stand a free annual subscription to IAF.
September is a very busy month for Aquafeed team members. Beside AQUA 2012, we are also attending Aquamar International 2012 and VIV China 2012 where our editor, Prof. Simon Davies, and Perendale Publishers Limited Managing Director , Mr Roger Gilbert, will be contributing presentations.
I would like to draw to your attention to a special arrangement Perendale Publishers Limited has with the BioMarine Business Convention. We have 20 tickets at a special delegation rate of €600 Instead of €1600 for the event. You can apply by sending me an email (tutit@perendale.co.uk) and quoting 'BioMarine IAF12'. Tickets are on a first-come-first-serve basis so get in contact quickly to be in with a chance. | Roger Gilbert (left) and David Mack outside the Perendale office in Cheltenham, UK |
David Mack, the organiser of Aquaculture UK 2012 in Aviemore, Scotland (held on May 23-24, 2012), visited the offices of International Aquafeed magazine on his return from London to Scotland. He was in Cheltenham to discuss preliminary plans for Aquaculture UK 2014 - also set down for Aviemore - and how the magazine might help promote the event to a global audience. Have you received your copy of the new International Aquafeed Directory 2012/13? It's being mailed to readers now and as a subscriber your copy should be falling through your mail box. If not, just let me know and I'll send you a copy by return. International Aquafeed Directory - our sister publication (produced by Turret Group) - is the industry's leading reference document for the aquaculture industry, particularly with it's health and nutrition emphasis. You can also find copies of the directory at the main shows being distributed alongside International Aquafeed magazine. Wall planner and Event Calendar 2013We are in the early stages of preparing our 2013 and plan this year to print a massive 20,000 copies! That's a huge number by any standards - and is particularly impressive for an industry such as ours. Last year we thought our 10,000 copy print run was over the top, but surprise, surprise all copies were snatched up at the various shows we attended and by our regular readers. If you want to promote your company on our wall planner please contact Lee or Darren on our sales team. Subscribers will receive copies with their November-December copies of IAF.
Sincerely
Tuti Tan Circulation and Events Manager International Aquafeed

In our NEXT issue ...
Coming up in September | October 2012
The use of algae in fish feeds as alternatives to fishmeal Fishmeal is very extensively used in feeds for fish as well as other animals. A recent global survey estimated aquaculture consumption of fishmeal at 3724 thousand tonnes in 2006 (Tacon and Metian 2008). Now it is becoming increasingly evident that such continued exploitation of this natural resource will ultimately become both environmentally and economically unsustainable.
Gustor Aqua and Ecobiol Aqua: enhancing digestion in a different manner The digestive system of fish and shrimp is sensitive and responsive to a number of stressing factors that frequently occur and are cause of disease and poor performance. In order to lessen the negative impacts of those and achieve sustainable, safe, and cost-efficient aquaculture production, nutritionists must focus not only on nutritional specifications but also on promoting digestive health. In such task, probiotics and organic acid salts have aroused as natural solutions that result in improved health status, nutrient utilization, and consequently performance.
Fishmeal & fish oil and its role in sustainable aquaculture The annual global production of fishmeal and fish oil is currently around five million tonnes of meal and one million tonnes of oil (Figure 1), except in years when the fishing in the South Pacific is disrupted by the warm waters of an El Niňo, most recently in 2010. Around 22 million tonnes of raw material is used, of which approximately 75 percent comes from whole fish and 25 percent from by-products of processing fish for human consumption (IFFO estimates).
