TOPNewsletter - May 2012

Dear Valued Subscriber

I'm pleased to say that we have a new staff member on the IMD. Alex Rogers, who has a degree in journalism, has been appointed IMD's Coordinator and will be working with both users and advertisers alike to make sure our directory remains the must-have industry reference document. Welcome Alex!

IMD is also developing an IMD News Service (to be located on the home page of www.internationalmilling.com), where all the latest information from companies listed in IMD can be found. This will go live from June 1, 2012.

We have also introduced an 'Events Register' where all industry-related events are listed. If your company is exhibiting at a key industry event over the next 12 to 18 months then please tell us and we will add you to our company listings for that particular event so that prospective visitors can reference you before they attend: a great way to put yourself in the industry's eye. However, you must be listed in IMD to be included.

Our first Spanish-language edition of IMD's sister magazine, GFMT, will be distributed at 'Agroactiva 2012' in Buenos Aires, Argentina from June 6-9, 2012. If you'd like a copy of GFMT Spanish please contact me.

A few remaining copies of IMD 2011/12 will be distributed free-of-charge to visitors attending the IGC Grains Conference in London, UK on June 7, 2012 and again at Cereals 2012 which takes place on Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th June at Boothby Graffoe, Lincolnshire, England. If you're attending either event, why not request us to save a copy for you?

Mobile App demo version igc logo
If you have not seen our new IMD application for mobile phones yet, why not try our new online demo - straight in your web browser. We have even given you a 'virtual' iPhone to test it on!

The demo will give you an idea of what the web app does and why every industry professional should have the entire IMD (and more) in their pocket.

View the demo

The application is free, and can be installed on your mobile by visiting http://mobile.internationalmilling.com on your smart phone or tablet.

Sincerely

Tuti Tan

USDA: Rice problems linked to carbon dioxide

Research at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) links gene flow between weedy and domesticated rice to rising carbon dioxide levels.

The research confirms that rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide facilitate the flow of genes from wild or weedy rice plants to domesticated rice varieties. As a result, domesticated plants could take on undesirable weedy characteristics that may interfere with future rice production.

Pneumatic Conveying of Bulk Solids Course
Pneumatic conveying is one of the most commonly used means of transporting bulk solids. Applications range from large scale ship bulk cargo unloaders through to small in-plant systems.

The Wolfson Centre has wide experience of different pneumatic conveying systems and the types of problems that can arise as a result of mismatching materials, feeders, pipe designs, or air movers to one another. The presenters have pooled their vast knowledge and experience in dealing with these problems to deliver a 2 day course, twice a year, which will cover operational and design issues associated with such systems.

Day 3 is a practical session (optional) in their laboratory.
