AQUA 2012

AQUA 2012 is the next joint International aquaculture conference and exhibition organised by the European Aquaculture society and the World Aquaculture society. After the successful AQUA2006 , Florence, Italy, the both boards decided Prague as the next venue.

The theme for next year's AQUA 2012 event "Global Aquaculture: Securing our Future" has several aspects. It has obvious implication in global and regional food security and aquaculture trade, placing aquaculture products in the global fisheries market. It also refers to economic and environmental sustainability and the image of aquaculture activities. Our future is what we make of it now - how we alleviate poverty; how we manage our future resource needs and especially how we educate, train and manage knowledge for the next generation of aquaculture researchers, producers and other stakeholders.

AQUA 2012 Programme co-chairs Marco Saroglia, Jos Polanco and Zdenek Adamek have put together a vast programme of more than 50 technical sessions that will be open for abstract submission. They are listed here in full under the main subject areas for you to start thinking about what you would like to present at this important global event. Please note that although the meeting is being held in the Czech Republic, all aspects of aquaculture (species, rearing environments, markets etc...) will be addressed at AQUA 2012.

Dr. Min Thein receives Senior Life Time Achievement Award in MicroAlgael BioTechnology at the 5th International Algae Congress in Berlin

Dr. Min Thein, General Manager (retd) from the Myanmar Spirulina Factory, Sagaing  and Professor Botany, Mandalay University in Myanmar, has received the Senior Life Time Achievement Award 2011 in Microalgal Biotechnology during the 5th International Algae Congress in Berlin last week. He received this award because of his scientific and industrial innovations and the worldwide promotion of microalgae.

Microalgae -  the small versatile aquatic plants we are all fascinated with - were responsible for pulling together more than 125 participants from around the world in the beautiful Radisson BLU Hotel in the German city of Berlin earlier this week.  Microalgae was the keyword under discussion. The organisers; the European Society of Microalgal Biotechnology, the German DLG e.V. and DLG BENELUX in the Netherlands look back to a very successful event.

The international character of the 5th IAC was underlined by the fact that participants this time came from over 30 countries , +94% compared with the 4th IAC in Amsterdam last year, and represented not only European nations but also amongst others companies and institutions from Suriname, Azerbaijan, Singapore, Japan, USA, Australia, India, La Reunion and Mongolia.
