Thought of the Week:
I recently watched the movie "Hugo" which received multiple Oscars. In the movie, Hugo Cabret and his friend Isabelle discuss purpose. Regarding one of the other characters, Monsieur Labisse, she says, "He's got real purpose."
Hugo says: "Everything has a purpose, even machines....They do what they are meant to do. Maybe that is why broken machines make me sad. Broken machines can't do what they're meant to do. It's the same with people. If you lose your purpose, it's like you're broken."
In some ways, I feel like our industry lost its purpose. We became enamored with our ability to gather assets and make investments, build intricate products and pursue innovative sales strategies. We forgot along the way that what we do best is protect people financially from the economic ruin that follows unforeseen but potential problems.
It takes courage to persevere and keep calling people and seeing people to tell them about what life insurance can do to create peace of mind and give people greater control. The courage comes from a strong sense of purpose.
