Here are a few FAQ's you may want to familiarize yourself with before presenting this product:
- Can the LTC rider be added to an existing policy? Even though the LTC rider is automatic and included in the cost of insurance, it has to be elected up front on the initial application.
- How do I include this rider to a new application? There is a separate LTC rider application which has to be completed.
- Is the LTC rider underwritten the same as the base plan? The LTC rider is underwritten separately from the base contract and can be declined.
- Is the LTC rider available on rated policies? At this time the LTC rider is only available on policies underwritten standard or better.
- If you are converting from a North American term product, is this plan included? No, if you are converting to a permanent plan and you want the LTC rider, you can have it but that portion will be underwritten.
- What is the minimum death benefit that is kept in force that cannot be used by the LTC rider? You can spend down to the residual $10,000 of the death benefit or 5% whichever is greater.
- What is the maximum size policy this can be issued? $1,000,000
- How are benefits paid? At the start of each policy year that they go on claim they can elect a lump sum payment, or 2 payments every 6 months. The maximum within the year is 24% of the death benefit.
- What is the maximum issue age? The rider is available for ages 75 and below.
- Are there additional fees for the administration of the claim? Yes, a $200 administration fee is taken out of each election.
- Are the rates for the rider guaranteed? Yes, the zero cost for the rider is guaranteed along with the guaranteed premium of the GUL product.
- Are the premiums and death benefit of the base contract guaranteed for Life? Yes, North American has included contractual language, if the contract is in force at age 100, the contract is guaranteed for the insured's life.
