Corporation Aligns Philanthropic Giving with Workforce Readiness Mission
JA Manpower Particiant

With its international headquarters in downtown Milwaukee, Manpower Inc. is a global leader in the employment services industry. The company is expanding upon its longtime partnership with Junior Achievement (JA) - the world's largest organization dedicated to preparing young people to succeed in a global economy - to teach young people career success skills across Wisconsin and the world.

"This partnership with JA is a natural fit for Manpower, as we are dedicated to preparing individuals of all ages with essential career skills to excel in the workplace," said Manpower President & CEO Jeff Joerres.

Through a volunteer network, Junior Achievement provides in-school and after-school programs for students which focus on three key content areas: work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy.  Nearly 60,000 Milwaukee-area students, approximately 18,000 from Milwaukee Public Schools, participated in JA programs throughout 2008.

Less than a decade after it was founded, Manpower became involved with JA in the 1957-58 school year. Today, Manpower is a leading provider of JA volunteers in metro Milwaukee.

"Helping young people learn essential skills to productively contribute to the future workforce is aligned with our mission and is a great example of the type of impact that we know we can have in the lives and communities in which we serve," said Joerres.

In 2008, Manpower became the sponsor of two initiatives; JA Success Skills and the Career Center at JA Finance Park in Milwaukee.  In late March 2009, Manpower Inc. and Junior Achievement will commence the global launch of JA Success Skills, a program designed to help high school students learn how to find, secure and keep a job as well as providing them with the tools to develop personal strategies for long-term career success.

Consistently being a top financial provider for JA is only a portion of Manpower's involvement locally and internationally.  Other support includes:
  • Supplying more than 260 JA volunteers who reach over 4,500 students around the world - including 75 classrooms in metro Milwaukee, reaching 2088 local children during the 2007-08 school year
  • Attending and supporting JA special events including the Wisconsin Business Hall of Fame, JA Women's Association Holiday Auction, and annual JA Bowl-a-thon
  • Offering Manpower's state of the art training rooms at their headquarters for JA volunteer orientation sessions
  • Top Manpower officials continue to provide leadership to JA, with Jonas Prising, President North America, currently serving on both the JA Wisconsin and JA Worldwide Board of Directors.

"Our involvement demonstrates Manpower's commitment to being a socially responsible corporate citizen and sharing our expertise to develop the workforce of the future," explains Manpower President & CEO Jeff Joerres.

"It's been wonderful how Manpower's partnership beginning with JA here in Wisconsin has grown into a worldwide partnership providing Workforce Readiness," said Tim Greinert, Junior Achievement of Wisconsin Inc. President.  "Thanks to Manpower's tremendous support, thousands of children across Wisconsin and the world are being prepared to succeed in the 21st century economy."
