Christian Foundation Nutures Changing Community

Teacher_Student

Founded in 2000, the Christian Stewardship Foundation enables people to give creatively and efficiently to a variety of causes and organizations throughout Wisconsin.

The Christian Stewardship Foundation (CSF), an affiliate of The National Christian Foundation which is the 29th largest public charity in the country, has distributed more than $20 million to over 350 organizations, many in the Greater Milwaukee area.

CSF has expanded the resources available for Christian and community nonprofits by increasing the efficiency and quantity of charitable donations from individuals, churches and ministries.

One of the successful programs funded by the foundation is Youth Haven, an after-school and summer program offering a safe, nurturing environment for children in the Woodlands neighborhood on the northwest side of Milwaukee.

The CSF Ministry Fund has awarded three grants to The Risen Savior Lutheran Church and School for program operations.

"The foundation and our donors are committed to assisting the ongoing needs of this dynamic community," said Carole Schmeda, Executive Director for the Christian Stewardship Foundation.

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, roughly 50 children ages 6-13 access games and recreation, music, arts and crafts projects, learning opportunities, and free hot meals.  Youth Haven offers children special field trips to the zoo, museums, IMAX theater, and parks.  Teens from the community serve as counselors and helpers, role models of healthy and hopeful lives for the children.

"The funding from Christian Stewardship Foundation is a blessing that allows us to serve the children, feeding their souls and their bellies," said Earnestine Goodlow, coordinator for Youth Haven.  "It proves a safe place for teaching children respect, values and morals.  We can expose these children to a multitude of activities that they may otherwise not experience, encouraging them to rise above their impoverished background."

"As a faithful steward distributing resources to the areas of greatest need, the foundation's grantmaking process is very focused on taking a close look at how lives can be transformed through programs such as Youth Haven, rather than just dollars out the door," said Timothy Young Eagle, Christian Stewardship Foundation Board Member and Chairman of the CSF Grant Committee.
