PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: Pictures Worth A Thousand Words
Sometimes words are just not enough. As they say, pictures are worth a thousand words. And thanks to the insistence of Jill and Doris --- we have been able to capture the transformation of some of of our most recent projects in the 'before' and 'after' state. I often begin working with a client at least 3-4 months before we ever actually pick up a paint brush. By the time we are on the job site, I am so anxious to begin work, I often forget to capture photos of the 'before' space. It sounds trite, but Faux Time Design really is a team operation, and we all share the common goal to have our customers in love with every inch of their homes.
A perfect example is the transformation of two beautiful spaces. Our client wanted her guests to feel like they were dining in an Old World Tuscan inn. We custom mixed three plasters to create a crumbled plaster finish with exposed stones. We created the stones with a different plaster and then hand painted each stone to create a real authentic look. The stones are so authentic that it begs you to walk over and touch. Texture is a crucial element in making faux real.
It would not be a Faux Time Design job without at least one ceiling. We glazed the ceiling in a lovely subtle tone on tone to complement the walls. We also rendered a custom decorative embellishment around the chandelier with copper gilding to match the chandelier.
From Tuscan to trendsetting. We worked with a delightful couple who wanted to make a statement in their dining room and we faced our charge with great enthusiasm. It began with a beautiful custom designed stencil from a company called Modello Designs. We designed the layout and then we had Modello custom cut to the exact specifications of the ceiling. Did you see the word stencil and think grape leaves from the '80s? Think again! The entire stencil was 8' x 10', it was specially designed with an adhesive backing that allowed us to transfer the pattern to the ceiling. It weighed more than 40 lbs and we had to divide it into no less than 10 separate pieces.
Once the Modello was in place, Then, we applied a metallic texture to the center of the design and then used gold leaf and gilded and antiqued the rest of the design. It was simply breathtaking, - Angela |
