Greetings!
Spring is here, evidenced by the plants beginning to bud and the hums of landscaping equipment. Interiors also benefit from a spring renewal. Sometimes it manifests itself via spring cleaning or freshening a look of a room feeling tired and worn after a long winter. How ever you decide to bring the outside in, Faux Time Design is here to help your living space come into full bloom!

ARE YOU AND YOUR CHILD STUCK IN B-TWEEN?
Remember, the labor of attention and detail you put into your newborn's room? The time spent figuring out a theme and making sure it all matched the crib bedding. Your precious baby becomes a toddler and the ducks are still cute and prompting them to quack. Then Hannah Montana and skateboarding posters are covering up the Pooh borders. Not only do you have to deal with the fact that they are growing up, but you want to make their bedrooms and play areas reflective of their personalities as well as be consistent with the design theme in your home.
Over the past few months we've worked with several clients dealing with this special transformation. Parents are discovering their kids really want a say in their room decor. Designing space for different needs in a family becomes a great bonding experience.
So how to make it through this 'bonding' without feeling the urge to throw it all out the window? There are a number of decorative painting applications to help you transform a nursery from gender specific to neutral without taking apart the whole room. Murals with a realistic genre are a fantastic way to capture your child's imagination while taking them well into their preteens and beyond.
What if your kids aren't 'in' to the mural scene? Try not to get wrapped up in the trends, especially if you are hoping to create a tasteful environment that will last for more than 2-3 years. In preteen rooms, geometric shapes and metallics are all the rage -- on walls and ceilings. Bronze, pewter and silvers all illustrate how contemporary meets classic. Metallic finishes enhance any space, modern or traditional.
Whatever your child's taste or personality, Faux Time Design is on the pulse of the design scene. Check out other ideas at www.fauxtimedesign.com. |

GREENING OPTIONS
Over the past several weeks, we have met with a number of clients and builders who are asking about the options for using environmentally friendly paints and glazes. Faux Time Design strongly endorses the use of 'green' products and is working to use only environmentally safe products by the end of 2008.
Our first step is quite simple -- currently, we reuse and recycle 70% of the containers and materials for each project. All of our waste is properly disposed of at NJ Hazardous Waste Collection sites. Next, we are testing and using materials that are certified by the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute. The Institute is an industry-independent organization that establishes acceptable standards for indoor air quality and stringent standards to protect children. If you are in the process of remodeling, visit the GREENGUARD institute at http://www.greenguard.org/ to find out about some unique green approaches for building construction.

MOMA EXHIBIT
Looking for a colorful day trip with the kids that appeals to you as well? Well, don't miss this one -- Benjamin Moore is sponsoring a wonderful exhibit featuring the work of forty-four artists, and its all right here in our backyard --- The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA)!
The exhibit is brilliant and stunning and your kids will be mesmerized by the many approaches to presenting color. My boys were able to see color in a whole different spectrum. This exhibit illustrated how art and the use of color is itself an art. They are still talking about it. The exhibit, running through May 12, is called Color Chart:Reinvent Color, 1950 to today. And don't miss the special section on the first floor --- your kids will go wild playing with color combinations and special geometric colorful magnets. This was great way for my boys to see that museums can be fun. If you can't make the exhibit, then don't miss the interactive website by clicking here. |
