Greetings!
Happy New Year! January is a time of renewal and we are hard at work with our clients transforming their homes and offices into works of art. The New Year also brings the launch of our new website at www.fauxtimedesign.com. We invite you to take a peek. Besides a new look, we have a photo gallery of our latest jobs.
A "virtual tour" leaves you wanting more? Over the next few months, we will be hosting several home tours of the finished spaces in which we had the pleasure of working. The results really speak for themselves.

PLAYROOM, COFFEE HOUSE OR NEW YORK LOFT? Clients, jobs and workspaces all provide a multitude of personalities and visions. Some clients have a crystal clear vision of what they want. We work with others who turn to use for inspiration and ideas. Either way, we work in tandem to achieve the same goal. We recently finished a job that proved to be a true collaborative effort.
BEFORE
Six months before we even opened a paint can, we met with the client. She wanted to take her children's playroom coupled with the family home office in a new direction. We discussed several options and ideas, but the vision really came to fruition when I found a simple coffee mug at a local apothecary.
AFTER
With the color palette before us, we worked with the client to create a coffee house, New York loft theme. Inspiration was born from different photos as well as one of my favorite past times -- antiquing. As ideas manifested, the plan came together and not a surface was left untouched. We rendered a beautiful cross hatch metallic finish on the ceiling and glazed all the moldings and doors. We applied several layers of a synthetic plaster to create the look of a brick wall with additional 'break away' bricks throughout the entire room. Finally, an Old World colorwash on the walls added a soothing, yet sophisticated backdrop to this beautiful space. Check out additional photos on our new website at www.fauxtimedesign.com. |

CREATING THE ILLUSION OF VENETIAN PLASTER
The classic beauty of Venetian Plaster has been appreciated for thousands of years, from the Greeks of ancient times to Juliet Caesar. Applied properly, the lime and marble based plasters will last for many years to come, if not civilizations. But what if these finishes are not in your budget? Even the most discerning homeowner or decorator can have the look of Venetian plaster with a product called ShimmerStone. ShimmerStone is a decorative architectural interior coating that is trowel applied (just like a Venetian Plaster) and can be layered to create many decorative effects. Because it does not require burnishing or sanding, the labor is significantly reduced and the client reaps the benefits in both the final finish and the wallet. Faux Time Design offers a wide range of Venetian Plasters and ShimmerStone finishes. |

SOURCES FOR DESIGN ADVICE
No need to break the bank to help foster your creativity and interior design thirst. One trend we have noticed lately is the growth of free decorating classes offered by local stores and even some big name chains. Pottery Barn recently announced a series of 'Spring Decorating Classes' at some of their local stores. Go to www.potterybarn.com for all the details.
Another resources is community schools and local interior design colleges. Emerson and Ridgewood community schools both offer a number of Interior Design classes at a fraction of the cost of hiring a certified Interior Decorator. Most often, they are taught by local business owners, who are willing to share a few good tips to possibly generate some new client relationships.
Another gem is to take notice of stores, restaurants and hotels that appeal to you. Some of our most satisfied clients just wanted to recreate that B&B feeling in their own home. Use your cell phones to take pictures of décor that speaks to you and bring it home. Increasing your awareness is the catalyst for putting your best design foot forward.
