TEXTURED WALLS A HIT 
Frequently we meet with clients with that certain space in their home or office that is truly throwing them for a loop -- they know it needs something, but are just not sure what that 'something' is.  This was one of those projects. Our client asked how I could render a finish that helped showcase their impressive guitar collection without overpowering the casual feel of the room. A quick look at the space and I knew how we could create an interesting focal point in this beautifully decorated room. Using lamps and a wing chair as inspiration pieces, I created a distressed leather finish using tissue paper and premium custom paints. The result was a stunning backdrop that imitated the look and feel of distressed leather with beautiful texture and dimension. |

CREATING SMART AND THOUGHTFUL DESIGNS
 Creating a contemporary and interesting backdrop for modern designs can be a challenge for anyone. So why not think outside the box? Or better yet, think of the box, circle, harlequin, or just about any shape or pattern you can imagine. Geometric designs create an elegance and simplicity that is beautiful in any decorating scheme.  And don't just think of the walls -- geometric designs look amazing on ceilings and floors, creating a level of depth and detail that is often hard to achieve with a glazing finish. And how to pull the entire look together with furnishings and accessories? Keep in mind balance and choose a simple pallette that is bold, but not overhwelming. |

WALLPAPER VS. FAUX PAINTING
Over the past few years, wallpaper manufacturers have responded to their customers' requests and have introduced a number of beautiful options.  And yet, for those homeowners and designers looking for that 'special, one of kind touch', the debate still rages on -- wallpaper versus faux painting. So let me help clear the air. Both options provide an opportunity to add depth, complex textures and intricate patterns to the wall. And with the introduction of new high-end paints and glazes, faux painting can provide the same durability and cleanability as wallpaper. However, the subtle differences may make all the difference. Faux painting is commissioned art -- providing an opportunity to create artwork not just on the walls, but the ceiling and floors as well -- and without any popped nails or obvious seams. So what about the cost difference? A professional faux artisan can usually recreate any wallpaper design often at a fraction of the cost of traditional wallpaper. |
