Gallagher Facade Renovation-The Eagle Building

The building at 107 North College Avenue is getting a facelift... or rather, a facade renovation.

Believed to be built in 1893, the Art Deco building on the Westside of the Square was home for decades to the Eagle Clothing Company. The facade is being restored to the way it looked in 1927. Historic research found that the design was done by John Nichols, Bloomington's first Architect.

The building will regain its raised display cases and marble trim all around the base plate. A large tray ceiling, centered in the twenty feet deep recessed storefront, is back lit and has a unique, asymmetrical art deco design. When the floor was removed, the old tile was revealed and is to be restored.

To assist in the cost of the project, a $10,000 grant from the Bloomington Urban Enterprise Zone Facade Improvement Program was awarded.

"It's a fun project," said Tom Gallagher, building owner.

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie

What do you think will happen if you give a mouse a cookie? Any child will tell you: "If you give a mouse a cookie, he's going to ask for a glass of milk... When you give him the milk, he'll probably ask you for a straw..." Yes, one thing leads to another, and then another, and then another, until it's mayhem and you ven remember how it all began! Oh, yes, it was a cookie.

This summer, Cardinal Stage Company launches its new Cardinal for Kids series with a show filled with messy, side-splitting hilarity the whole family will love-If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Based on the popular children's book by Laura Joffe Numeroff, the live stage production is recommended for families with children age 4-10 and serves as a wonderful introduction to theatre for young audience members.
