Jan Bulla-Baker
Bloomington Cooking School
115 N College Ave

Co-owner of the Bloomington Cooking School, Jan loves bringing people together with good food and interesting conversation.  For over three years, Jan has wakened at 5:30am to prepare a light, healthy breakfast and coffee for the Downtown Retail Promotion Committee.  Downtown retailers meet from 8-9am to share news from their business, learn about downtown happenings and provide input on downtown promotion issues.  Approximately 20-30 different businesses, galleries and attractions participate.  There is always lively interaction and a new breakfast treat.  All businesses are encouraged to attend.  They are a success due to Jan's commitment and welcoming nature.

Jan, co-owner of The Bloomington Cooking School, credits her mother's fine taste in food and her father's insistence on eating for her interest in cooking.  From Robinson, Illinois, the home of Heath candy bars, she started candy making as a youth.  She had her own Chocolate Factory in Bloomington for three years, where she created over 30 flavors of truffles.  Her truffles have been consumed at the Indianapolis Symphony for over 15 years.  Jan's encounters with cookbooks led to self-taught adventures in cooking.  Her travels to Italy broadened her interest in slow food and fine wine.  Trained as an English teacher, she looks forward to classes where the tests are edible.

The Promotion Committee meets the third Thursday of the month.  The next meeting is Thursday, February 18th and SBDC will be our featured speaker.  To learn more about the Promotion Committee or to be featured as a Spotlight, please email  our office.
