I spent Family Day/President's Day on the UBC campus with my daughter. They have an orientation program called Degree in a Day. I've often thought about purchasing an advanced degree from one of those scammy places for a thousand bucks just so I could be called Dr. Letourneau. It would irritate most everyone I know. Jim Letourneau has a Doctorate in Art History from Ashwood University. Anyhow if you see Dr. in front of my name, you'll know it is based on my extensive life experience and not the completion of a thesis.
UBC recruiters show prospective students inspiring videos from their best and brightest (or at least most interesting) student projects. Stuff like a cute? sea lion with a camera attached to it and a nice film from a student motorcycle trip through Mongolia. There was little time to enjoy the Nitobe Memorial Garden or the Buchanan reflecting pond. I talk about them in detail over on www.bigpicturespeculator.com.
I'm long two stocks that are based on UBC research programs. Niether of them were mentioned by those perky UBC recruiters. One detects cancer better than specialists and the other solves a big problem in drug delivery.
Wavefront Technology Solutions (WEE.V)
Nobody tells the Wa.vefront story better than CEO Brett Davidson. Powerwave is a Canadian innovation that came out of the University of Waterloo. If you're in the oil business this is a must watch video. You can buy shares in this company as well!

Last weekend I was at the Daytona 500. I got a lesson in Black Swans among other things. I'll have more on that shortly. I'm heading off to Toronto tomorrow for the PDAC International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange.
