On Sunday morning, I encouraged all pledging members to vote on the proposal to ask the Bishop and Trustees to purchase the property at 4606 N. Paulina. In that announcement, I stated that not voting would be counted as a "NO" vote. That statement
would have been true, were this a canonically-regulated vote.
After consulting Todd Young, our diocesan chancellor and resident canonical expert, we have learned that because we are not yet encumbering property this is not a canonically-regulated vote; it is essentially a survey. Therefore, we will move forward with the proposal if two-thirds of respondents vote "YES." This means that a non-vote is, in fact, just that: a non-vote. It is an abstention. If you want to vote against the proposal, you need to actually vote "no."
In light of that misunderstanding, we have made the online voting form available again for anyone who did not vote previously. We want to make sure all
pledging members have had ample opportunity to accurately express their opinion. Please complete the survey by 10 am on Thursday, March 29. If you completed the survey the first time around, you do not need to resubmit your vote.
The link to the survey is included below. There is also a link to a pdf document which outlines the full details of the proposal, if you have not already had a chance to review this information prior to voting.
All the best,
Bonnie
