All Saints' Episcopal Church
News for the Week of December 11, 2011
Dear Friends,

This past Sunday I invited all of us to spend some time reading

the Gospel of Mark in preparation for Christmas.  I was wondering

in the midst of your busy schedules how that was going for all of you.

I'm half way through and have found that the version found in the Common English Bible (a new translation) makes for fabulous reading. Here's a link to this translation.  Give it a try--it may be the perfect thing to do on a cold winter morning or at the end of a long dark day.

This Saturday, our very own Lora Walsh will be ordained by Jeff Lee in our sanctuary at 3:00.  I invite you come and support Lora as she becomes a priest.  I'll be preaching and I know for a fact that the music will be amazing!

Prior to that--go out and do some Christmas Shopping and let us take care of your children.  The All Saints' Supper Sitters will be in full force from 11 until 2. At $15 an hour per family it is a good price and it will help raise some money for our ministries at All Saints.

Our construction project continues to move along.  Prayers for a few more days of 40 degree weather would be greatly appreciated.

It's a busy time time, its a good time.  This coming week will be a holiday extravaganza at our Community Kitchen and food pantry so think about coming and volunteering, this week, the next week, the week after that and the week after...you get the idea.

Did you see the piece that Fox News did on All Saints and RCS?  Here's the link- it is very well done. Send it around to your friends and invite them to come volunteer and find out about all we do to make a difference: both reading and living the Gospel.

Happy Advent!

Best,

Bonnie

Update on 2012 Pledging

Many thanks to the 85 (10 new, 75 renewing) individuals/families who have pledged $203,098 to All Saints' for 2012! And, thank you to the many people who offer countless hours of time and a myriad of gifts to support this amazing community of faith! We're hoping for about 100 more individuals/families to pledge their financial support over the next few weeks.

If you haven't yet made your pledge, click the button below below to do so now.

If you check the box that says "Yes, I'd like to set up a recurring credit/debit payment for my pledge contributions," you can go ahead and set up your recurring donation by clicking here. Everyone who checked this box will receive an email before the beginning of 2012 with the link to set up a recurring donation.

Reminder emails went out recently both to the entire All Saints' mailing list (if you already pledged and you received an email yesterday, don't worry, we have received your pledge) and to those who have previously pledged to All Saints' but haven't yet renewed for 2012.

Note: If you already have a recurring donation set up on your credit/debit card and you intend to keep that going in 2012, please DO fill out the pledge form so we know of your intention to continue your support in 2012.

We hope to have all 2012 pledges in by Sunday, December 18 to enable the finance committee and vestry to produce a realistic 2012 budget for review at the Annual Meeting on January 29, 2012.
Babysitting Day December 10 from 11am-2pm
Looking for kid-free time to get your Christmas shopping done?

Good news!!! We are holding another babysitting day here at All Saints' on Saturday, December 10th from 11:00 - 2:00. All ages are welcome. We will have games, movies, and snacks/lunch. Cost is $15 per family per hour, and all money raised benefits our operating budget!

Please e-mail Christy Drackett (christydrackett@gmail.com) to register in advance. (We need to know how many kids we'll have to make sure we have enough volunteers!)

Deck the tree with scarves and mittens, fa la la la la, la la la la!

mittensIt's time to trim our mitten tree with warm hats, scarves, mittens, and gloves for our neighbors who come for food and fellowship every Tuesday evening. The tree will go up for the first Sunday of Advent (November 27) and remain in the sanctuary to be draped with warm gifts until after the Christmas pageant on December 18. Donations will be accepted any time, though. Chicago's winter is long and cold, especially for folks who are living on the streets; the need is enormous and continues long after the holidays. Store-bought and handmade items gratefully accepted.

And, please join the ECW on Monday, December 12th at 7:30pm in the parish hall to finish any mitten tree projects! Feel free to bring Holiday snack and/or libations to nosh on while we put the finishing touches on this season's additions to the All Saints' tree!

Christmas Flower and Greenery Donations

Each year, as we prepare to adorn the church with poinsettias and greens for our celebration of Christmas, we have the opportunity to make contributions to assist with the purchasing of these decorations.

If you'd like to make a contribution toward this effort, there are two ways to do so:

1. Simply put a check with "Christmas Flowers" in the memo line in the offering plate.

2. Donate online by  clicking here.

If you'd like to make your contribution in honor and/or memory of someone, please email your the honor/memorial information to christmasflowers@allsaintschicago.org by Monday, December 19 and it will be included in the Christmas bulletin inserts.

Beer and Carols
Sunday, December 18 at 5:30pm (following Lessons and Carols)

The only thing better than going caroling is going caroling at your neighborhood Irish pub. We'll gather in the back room at O'Shaughnessy's Public House at the corner of Wilson and Ravenswood (fondly known as the church annex), eat food, drink beer (and other equally attractive non-alcoholic beverages) and sing carols....lots of carols. This is arguably the best way to keep warm on a cold winter's night. RSVP via the Facebook event here or email beau@allsaintschicago.org
