Dear Friends,
This Sunday, Bishop Joseph of the Diocese of Renk, Republic of South Sudan, will be with us. In addition, he will be bringing a colleague of his, Chief Bior Ding. Chief Bior is the chief for the Dinka tribe in Renk. I am both honored and excited that these two men will be with us on Sunday. Joseph and Bior will lead our 10:00 adult education time--offering us a first-hand account of how the country of Southern Sudan is being shaped and formed. In addition, Joseph will relate to us how the $23,500 we raised at our 2011 Africa Bake Auction is making a difference in the lives of the people of Renk.
At the end of October (Sunday, October 30) our own Bishop, Jeff Lee, will be preaching and celebrating at our All Saints' Day and Day of the Dead festivities. If you are interested in making an adult profession of faith while Jeff is with is--that is if you are interested in being confirmed, received, or individually reaffirming your baptismal promises please e-mail me (bonnie@allsaintschicago.org) or give me a call (773-561-0111) and let me know of your interest.
This Sunday we will also commission and offer prayers for the people who are journeying to New Orleans to continue our Hurricane Katrina Restoration work. Please join me on Sunday in offering our prayers and our thanksgiving for all of the people who are so dedicated to this life changing ministry.
TONIGHT, check out the Channel 2 CBS 10:00 Evening News. Word has it that this is when All Saints' will be featured on their "Favorite Places in Chicago" segment. Many thanks to Polly Tangora who wrote to CBS and described All Saints' in such inspired prose!
I'll be preaching on Sunday and Bishop Joseph will be celebrating. I'm looking forward to seeing you all.
All my best,
Bonnie

| New Orleans and Terrebone Parish, LA, Here We Come | |
Seventeen folks will head down to New Orleans on Oct. 1 for our 11th Rebuild Trip. While in NOLA, we will check out "Art for Art's Sake"; worship with St. Luke's, our partner parish; work with the Episcopal Community Services of LA Rebuild Program; and hang out with Hilary Waldron. On our 5th day, we head down to the Bayou country to work with Bayou Grace on plant restoration and the "Voices of the Wetlands Festival." Team members include: Rob Book (Team Organizer), Dan Acosta, Mike Burke, Caty Norman-Burke, Lynn Bowers, Kay Collins, Betty Douglas, Barbara Dufford, Rev. Fran Holliday, Lyle Hyde, Marianne Hyde, Norm Linde, Mike Maszk, Susan Sullivan, Joey Sylvester, Linda Toelke, and Alice Wozniak.
If you want to help save the Wetlands, our friends from Bayou Grace ask us to support the RESTORE Gulf Coast Act, S 1400. It helps to assure that 80% of penalities paid under last year's Gulf oil disaster are used to help restore the region's communities, ecosystems and economies instead of going to unrelated federal funding.
Merci, Joey Sylvester, Facilitator, Katrina Task Force.

Mark your calendars! First Wednesdays Supper Club is coming.
Food....Fellowship....Engaging discussion....
(Remember...the only rule to Supper Club....tell EVERYONE about SupperClub)
We will gather at 6:30 pm the first Wednesday of each month in the parish hall for a light supper, followed by prayer and reflection on a variety of different spiritual topics. (Those involved in other activities on Wednesday night such as choir or EFM may join us for dinner, of course, then head to your own group!)
We will begin on October 5th with a reflection on the life and lessons of St. Francis led by Jack Clark. Future topics to be announced.
Childcare to be provided.
Sign up for the supper by emailing Beau Surratt at beau@allsaintschicago.org. Please sign up by Monday, October 3 at 5pm to reserve your place at the supper- we need to know in advance so we know how much food to order.

All Saints ECW: It's Knitting Time!
| |
That snap is back in the air and the evenings are getting longer. Time to start knitting again! Get underway on your holiday and Mitten Tree projects in the company of other ASEC women. This event is hosted by Lydia Carr, who will provide delicious snacks, cheerful music, and a printed selection of simple hat and scarf patterns. She has personally checked that they are idiot proof, so don't worry if you are a first-time or returning crafter! Please bring your own needles/hooks/yarn. If you need supplies, Lydia recommends stopping around the corner at Sifu at 5044 N Clark St (between Carmen and Winnemac, open until 7 PM most days). Lisa, the owner, gives very good advice on where to start and how to finish!
Thursday, September 29, 1525 West Carmen Avenue, Apt 1
(between Clark and Ashland, some street parking available).
7 to 9 PM. Please RSVP to care@allsaintschicago.org and carr.lydia@gmail.com before Monday September 26.

Fright Fest is the weekend of October 29... and Polly and Clyde need your help!
Do you love Halloween as much as Polly and Clyde do? Want to help make this year's Fright Fest even more fun and spookier than last year? The youth group has already stared planning for this year's Haunted Undercroft/Patio. But Polly and Clyde need your help to come up with more games and decorations for the parish hall. How about devil ducks from the black lagoon? And someone is going to need help to build the maze out of cardboard boxes for Frankenstein's lair. We will of course have the witches back to tell oh so mysterious fortunes again. The Fright Fest is scheduled for the week-end of the 29th along with the Sunday Celebration of Day of the Dead and All Saints' Day. You can help a little or a lot - just talk to Polly Tangora or Clyde Propst or email polly@allsaintschicago.org.

| Worship Pilgrimage Project | |
| | Worship at Holy Covenant UMC on Diversey, one of the congregations involved in the project. |
Are you in your 20's/30's, and interested in worship? All Saints is participating in a project with three other progressive Protestant churches on the northside. Participants will share a meal, then, over the course of three months, visit each of the other churches with the aim of exploring why these churches are flourishing and attracting young adults. The project will conclude with a conference and final dinner next spring. If you're interested or have questions, contact Jack Clark at jack@allsaintschicago.org.

| Piano Lesson Discount for All Saints' Members | | In the spirit of furthering the cooperation between our two organizations, The ACM School of Music (1758 W. Wilson, across the street from All Saints') would like to extend a half price discount to members of All Saints' Church piano classes for children or adults for the month of September.
Our curriculum is a unique blend of note reading and music theory resulting in the ability to play the music of others and also create original music and better understand the language of music.
This introductory offer is a great way to get to know the school and our philosophy of teaching. Just give us a call at 773.334.3650 and mention the church to take advantage of this offer!
