Dear Friends,
It was great to see all of you this past week. Now I'm looking forward to our annual Backpack Blessing this Sunday. Parishioner, priest and Montessori Educator Ashley Thom will be our preacher. Please bring your family's backpacks to get blessed and invite any of your friends who happen to be involved in the world of academia. There is probably nothing more important or more formative than our education process. This Sunday's worship service is designed to lift up everyone who participates in this life-long, life-forming process.
Looking ahead--on Sunday October 30th during our All Saints Day and Day of the Dead Festivities our bishop, Jeff Lee will be making his congregational visit. Part of Bishop Lee's time with us will be spent receiving or confirming any of us who desires to join the Episcopal church and/or make an adult profession of faith. Please let me know if you are interested.
Also if you or your child would like to be baptized that Sunday please send me and Beau a note at beau@allsaintschicago.org .
Many thanks Carol Reese, Becky Gould, Andrea Garland, John Wischnewsky, Jennifer Simokaitis, Helen Poot, Beau Surratt, Fran Holliday, and all the people who have worked on this year's backpack blessing liturgy.
See you on Sunday if not before!
All the best, Bonnie

| Ravenswood School Supply Drive, Sponsored by the All Saints Youth Group! (ASYG) | | Our youth group would like to ask for your participation in a school supply drive for Ravenswood School!
WHO: Many of the 6th, 7th and 8th grade children will come to Ravenswood school without any basic supplies to start the school year. In fact, most of the middle schoolers are on free or reduced lunch, which means they live in a low income household. There are about 40 children per class, and we'd like to set them up for a great start to the school year!
WHEN: In the next 4 weeks, we'd like to collect the needed supplies so that we can present them to the Ravenswood School representatives at the Backpack Blessing on Sunday, September 18.
WHAT WE NEED:
Spiral Notebooks
Composition Notebooks
Loose Leaf Paper
Two Pocket Folders
Pens
Pencils (#2)
Index Cards
Hand Held Pencil Sharpeners
Scotch Tape
Glue Stick/Elmers Glue
Highlighters
Binders
Three Hole Punch
Rulers
Scissors
Small Staplers
Pencil Bags/Cases
Copy Paper---Lots and lots of copy paper!
WHERE: Please drop off your donations in the back of the church near the front doors. There are several containers that say RAVENSWOOD SCHOOL DONATIONS.
Thank you so very much for your time and efforts in supporting this most important neighborhood ministry.
Please contact Beth Lee at Blee@jny.com with any questions!
Peace,
ASYG

All Saints ECW: It's Knitting Time!
| |
That snap is back in the air and the evenings are getting longer. Time to start knitting again! Get underway on your holiday and Mitten Tree projects in the company of other ASEC women. This event is hosted by Lydia Carr, who will provide delicious snacks, cheerful music, and a printed selection of simple hat and scarf patterns. She has personally checked that they are idiot proof, so don't worry if you are a first-time or returning crafter! Please bring your own needles/hooks/yarn. If you need supplies, Lydia recommends stopping around the corner at Sifu at 5044 N Clark St (between Carmen and Winnemac, open until 7 PM most days). Lisa, the owner, gives very good advice on where to start and how to finish!
Thursday, September 29, 1525 West Carmen Avenue, Apt 1
(between Clark and Ashland, some street parking available).
7 to 9 PM. Please RSVP to care@allsaintschicago.org and carr.lydia@gmail.com before Monday September 26.

Mark your calendars! First Wednesdays Supper Club is coming. | | |

Food....Fellowship....Engaging discussion....
(Remember...the only rule to Supper Club....tell EVERYONE about Supper Club)
We will gather at 6:30 pm the first Wednesday of each month in the parish hall for a light supper, followed by prayer and reflection on a variety of different spiritual topics. (Those involved in other activities on Wednesday night such as choir or EFM may join us for dinner, of course, then head to your own group!)
We will begin on October 5th with a reflection on the life and lessons of St. Francis led by Jack Clark. Future topics to be announced.
Childcare to be provided.
Sign up for the supper by emailing Beau Surratt at beau@allsaintschicago.org. Please sign up by Monday, October 3 at 5pm to reserve your place at the supper- we need to know in advance so we know how much food to order.

| Worship Pilgrimage Project | |
 | | Worship at Holy Covenant UMC on Diversey, one of the congregations involved in the project. |
Are you in your 20's/30's, and interested in worship? All Saints is participating in a project with three other progressive Protestant churches on the northside. Participants will share a meal, then, over the course of three months, visit each of the other churches with the aim of exploring why these churches are flourishing and attracting young adults. The project will conclude with a conference and final dinner next spring. If you're interested or have questions, contact Jack Clark at jack@allsaintschicago.org.

| Interested in working with our children at All Saints'? | | As we begin the new church school year All Saints' is looking for help in our church school classrooms on Sunday mornings and with a number of events and activities throughout the year: ˇ Fright Fest / Day of the Dead Weekend - October 28, 29, 30 - helping plan, set up and run the Horrible Haunted Undercroft, The not so scary haunted maze and the incredibly fun spooky games in the parish hall ˇ "Saturday Camp" days -Dec. 3 for Advent and Palm Saturday March 31 for the children 4 to 9 ˇ The Christmas pageant during December assisting with the rehearsals and preparation for the production that will be given December 18 ˇ Exploring and planning the possibility of holding an All Saints' Vacation Bible School next summer ˇ Sunday morning church school classes. There are three classes that meet at 10am almost every Sunday - 3 to 6 year-olds, 6 to 9 year-olds and 9 to 12 year-olds. Often people interested in working in these classes begin by serving as assistants after meeting for a Saturday orientation session to get some "basic training". Some of our assistants work on a fairly regular basis while others serve as occassional substitutes. ˇ Youth Group - Our youth group here at All Saints' meets on Sunday afternoons from around 3pm to 6 or 7pm. This last year there have been craft projects, reflections, discussions, worship and the production of a fantastic Christmas pageant. The youth group also takes field trips, spends the night before Pentecost sleeping in and around the church and helps carry out the Bake Auction. Help with supervision and just hanging out is needed. We ask all our volunteers to fill out an application and take part in an interview to discern what kind of assignment might best suit their talents and schedule. Volunteers also need to take the "Keeping God's People Safe" workshop either before or within the first few months of their service. If you are interested in helping with any of these please speak with one of our church school teachers, youth leaders or contact Polly Tangora, polly@allsaintschicago.org. |
| Sudanese Guests September 25 | |
Bishop Joseph Garang Atem and Chief Bior Kuir Aguer Deng, chief of the Dinka Tribe in Upper Nile State, South Sudan, will be with us on Sunday, September 25th. Bishop Joseph will be presiding at the Eucharist and both he and Chief Bior will speak between the 9 and 11 o'clock services about the birth of their new nation, South Sudan, and the impact these changes are having on Renk Diocese.

| Piano Lesson Discount for All Saints' Members | | In the spirit of furthering the cooperation between our two organizations, The ACM School of Music (1758 W. Wilson, across the street from All Saints') would like to extend a half price discount to members of All Saints' Church piano classes for children or adults for the month of September.
Our curriculum is a unique blend of note reading and music theory resulting in the ability to play the music of others and also create original music and better understand the language of music.
This introductory offer is a great way to get to know the school and our philosophy of teaching. Just give us a call at 773.334.3650 and mention the church to take advantage of this offer!
