Dear Friends,
I'm delighted to back from my respite and I'm looking forward to seeing and reconnecting with all of you--hopefully on this Sunday. It's been a busy week--since I've been back. Two weddings/blessings, a newcomer's/inquirer's class and many conversations about our incredible buildings! I'm delighted to see that our community did not slow its pace in my absence. Many thanks to Fran, Beau, Jack, Wendy and Liz who did a wonderful job creating and embodying the Summer of Awesome.
This Sunday, in the course of our liturgy, we will remember and honor all of the people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. I believe our worship will offer us a way to acknowledge and reflect upon how our lives have changed in ten years since that incredibly sad Tuesday morning.
In addition, church school and choir will also start this week. I understand, in my absence, our worship services have started on time! I'm not planning on altering this new found pattern of order and timeliness. So, set your clocks and get the kid's snack bags ready the night before because we'll be ringing that bell at 8:00, 9:00 and 11:00. (This is my solemn vow!)
See you soon,
Bonnie
P.S If you are looking for a way to make a difference in the community--please head on over to the Ravenswood School parking lot tomorrow morning at 8:30 to help with our monthly market pantry.

ADULT FAITH EXPLORATIONS: 9/11 OBSERVANCE 10:00-11:00 am Sunday in Parish Hall | |
The 10th Anniversary of 9/11 evokes a wide range of emotional, spiritual, and political responses. Join others in our community who are grieving, angry, confused, struggling, or inspired to action. Our forum provides a space for us to share and honor these experiences, memories, and responses as a community. A "Wailing Wall" will be available for anyone who wishes to offer their responses in ritual and written form.

If so, please contact Polly Tangora at polly@allsaintschicago.org or Andrea Garland at agarland@ameritech.net so that we may provide you and your child with important information. We look forward to a great church school year! |

| Ravenswood School Supply Drive, Sponsored by the All Saints Youth Group! (ASYG) | | Our youth group would like to ask for your participation in a school supply drive for Ravenswood School!
WHO: Many of the 6th, 7th and 8th grade children will come to Ravenswood school without any basic supplies to start the school year. In fact, most of the middle schoolers are on free or reduced lunch, which means they live in a low income household. There are about 40 children per class, and we'd like to set them up for a great start to the school year!
WHEN: In the next 4 weeks, we'd like to collect the needed supplies so that we can present them to the Ravenswood School representatives at the Backpack Blessing on Sunday, September 18.
WHAT WE NEED:
Spiral Notebooks
Composition Notebooks
Loose Leaf Paper
Two Pocket Folders
Pens
Pencils (#2)
Index Cards
Hand Held Pencil Sharpeners
Scotch Tape
Glue Stick/Elmers Glue
Highlighters
Binders
Three Hole Punch
Rulers
Scissors
Small Staplers
Pencil Bags/Cases
Copy Paper---Lots and lots of copy paper!
WHERE: Please drop off your donations in the back of the church near the front doors. There are several containers that say RAVENSWOOD SCHOOL DONATIONS.
Thank you so very much for your time and efforts in supporting this most important neighborhood ministry.
Please contact Beth Lee at Blee@jny.com with any questions!
Peace,
ASYG

All Saints' Baby (and parent) Meetup Sunday, September 18 at 10am | | Does your family have a new addition? Ever wish you had a chance to get to know other All Saints' families with babies? Stop by the reading room between the 9 and 11:00 services on Sunday, September 18th! In between blessing backpacks for the older kiddos, babies (and their families!) can have a chance to chat, laugh and blow raspberries at each other. We will chat about organizing monthly All Saints' Baby Playdates for the coming school year, too!

All Saints ECW: It's Knitting Time!
| |
That snap is back in the air and the evenings are getting longer. Time to start knitting again! Get underway on your holiday and Mitten Tree projects in the company of other ASEC women. This event is hosted by Lydia Carr, who will provide delicious snacks, cheerful music, and a printed selection of simple hat and scarf patterns. She has personally checked that they are idiot proof, so don't worry if you are a first-time or returning crafter! Please bring your own needles/hooks/yarn. If you need supplies, Lydia recommends stopping around the corner at Sifu at 5044 N Clark St (between Carmen and Winnemac, open until 7 PM most days). Lisa, the owner, gives very good advice on where to start and how to finish!
Thursday, September 29, 1525 West Carmen Avenue, Apt 1
(between Clark and Ashland, some street parking available).
7 to 9 PM. Please RSVP to care@allsaintschicago.org and carr.lydia@gmail.com before Monday September 26.

| Worship Pilgrimage Project | |
 | | Worship at Holy Covenant UMC on Diversey, one of the congregations involved in the project. |
Are you in your 20's/30's, and interested in worship? All Saints is participating in a project with three other progressive Protestant churches on the northside. Participants will share a meal, then, over the course of three months, visit each of the other churches with the aim of exploring why these churches are flourishing and attracting young adults. The project will conclude with a conference and final dinner next spring. If you're interested or have questions, contact Jack Clark at jack@allsaintschicago.org.

| Interested in working with our children at All Saints'? | | As we begin the new church school year All Saints' is looking for help in our church school classrooms on Sunday mornings and with a number of events and activities throughout the year: ˇ Fright Fest / Day of the Dead Weekend - October 28, 29, 30 - helping plan, set up and run the Horrible Haunted Undercroft, The not so scary haunted maze and the incredibly fun spooky games in the parish hall ˇ "Saturday Camp" days -Dec. 3 for Advent and Palm Saturday March 31 for the children 4 to 9 ˇ The Christmas pageant during December assisting with the rehearsals and preparation for the production that will be given December 18 ˇ Exploring and planning the possibility of holding an All Saints' Vacation Bible School next summer ˇ Sunday morning church school classes. There are three classes that meet at 10am almost every Sunday - 3 to 6 year-olds, 6 to 9 year-olds and 9 to 12 year-olds. Often people interested in working in these classes begin by serving as assistants after meeting for a Saturday orientation session to get some "basic training". Some of our assistants work on a fairly regular basis while others serve as occassional substitutes. ˇ Youth Group - Our youth group here at All Saints' meets on Sunday afternoons from around 3pm to 6 or 7pm. This last year there have been craft projects, reflections, discussions, worship and the production of a fantastic Christmas pageant. The youth group also takes field trips, spends the night before Pentecost sleeping in and around the church and helps carry out the Bake Auction. Help with supervision and just hanging out is needed. We ask all our volunteers to fill out an application and take part in an interview to discern what kind of assignment might best suit their talents and schedule. Volunteers also need to take the "Keeping God's People Safe" workshop either before or within the first few months of their service. If you are interested in helping with any of these please speak with one of our church school teachers, youth leaders or contact Polly Tangora, polly@allsaintschicago.org. |
| Sudanese Guests September 25 | |
