This week in the Summer of Awesome!

The summer of awesome is a time to connect with others, a time to enjoy each other's company,

a time for rest and renewal.  It is a time to be rather than a time to do.

Dear Friends,

I hope that all of you are having a wonderful summer and taking some time for rest and relaxation.  This Sunday we have a wonderful opportunity for you to be fed spiritually as we celebrate our Bluegrass Mass.  Our very own Colby Maddox and his band Sunnyside Up will be with us. The Rev. Dr. Frank Yamada, President of McCormick Seminary will be our preacher.

Please mark your calendar for Wednesday August 31 at 6:30 p.m.  We will be celebrating the "Summer of Awesome" as it comes to a close with a Potluck Dinner and Eucharist. This is an event for families, friends and children of all ages.

It is not to early to mark your calendar for upcoming events in the fall!

Sunday, September 18 is our Backpack Blessing at the 9 and 11:00 a.m. services.

We will also have the next All Saints Café that day and volunteers are needed to help prepare and serve a 5 star restaurant meal to our neighbors in need. Please contact the RCS volunteer coordinator Liz Embler at liz@ravenswoodcommunityservices.org

If you should need anything, please do not hesitate to call the church office or you may contact me on my cell phone at 312-401-2058.

See you Sunday,

Rev. Fran Holliday

Potluck Eucharist
Wednesday, August 31 at 6:30pm
Please join us as we bring the Summer of Awesome to a close by sharing a Potluck Meal and a Eucharist together.

We'll gather much like we do on Maundy Thursday, around delicious food prepared by members of the All Saints' community. We'll sing together, eat together, spend some time talking about Scripture and share together in the Eucharist-- in Communion--in God's holy meal of thanksgiving.

We'll make the liturgy together.
If you'd like to help shape the liturgy- the framework and common prayer for our time together, contact Fran Holliday (fran@allsaintschicago.org) or Jack Clark (jack@allsaintschicago.org)

We'll make a dish together
If you'd have some time to get together a little earlier in the day, the staff will be making a dish together to contribute to the gathering. Contact Beau Surratt at beau@allsaintschicago.org if you'd like to help cook.

Bring yourself, your family and friends, and a dish to share. The church staff will provide the rest.
Summer of "Awesome Yoga"
Three Monday Nights in August

August 1, 8 and 15, 6:30-7:45pm in the Parish Hall

Certified Yoga teacher and All Saints' parishioner Ruth Frey will teach Gentle Yoga on Monday nights in August.

Join your friends and neighbors to
stretch, breathe and relax in the All Saints' parish hall during this summer of awesome.  Bring a yoga mat if you have one or a blanket or sheet if you don't.  6:30 to 7:45 pm on August 1, August 8 and August 15.

Attention, All Saints' Ladies!

ECW Retreat Planning Meeting

Last year's All Saints' ECW (Episcopal Church Women) fall retreat was an amazing opportunity to carve out Sabbath in our busy lives and connect with the fabulous women in our parish. ECW Fall Retreat 2.0 planning has begun! Do you have any ideas for this year's October 15-16 getaway? Please come to our first planning meeting on Wednesday, August 17th at 8pm! We will meet at Julius Meinl at Lincoln and Montrose; please RSVP to Elizabeth Shapiro, ecw@allsaintschicago.org!

Boat Trip!

Ladies! Sail away with ECW on our last Summer of Awesome outing! Join us on Thursday, August 25th as we cast off from Navy Pier and head out on Shoreline Chicago's nighttime architectural cruise! We will be meeting at 8:15pm at the Shoreline Chicago dock on the southwestern end of Navy Pier. Tickets range from $25-30, and scholarship funds are available. To purchase tickets in advance and get more information, please email Elizabeth Shapiro at ecw@allsaintschicago.org, or call 773-680-0987.

Wheel of Awesome:  Summer Salons
CHILDCARE AVAILABLE
Bring your lawnchair, open mind and heart, and longing to connect deeply with others.  Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30 pm (June 29th-August 17th) on the northeast lawn of the church we will join in small groups to discuss spiritual topics of relevance to our lives.  Each week we will spin the wheel to see where our discussion will land:  "How does social networking impact our spiritual lives?"  "Can we unplug and still connect?"  "What REALLY counts as sin?"  "Is a playful piety an oxymoron?"  "What do the Bad Girls of the Bible have to say to us today?"

No Wheel of Fortune experience necessary to participate. No previous lawnchair theology required.  No lawnchair required -- bring a blanket.  Come, relax, make new friends, and enliven your faith this summer!

Childcare is available. If you want to know more,
adultformation@allsaintschicago.org or call Jeanne Wirpsa @ 773-316-6936.

Inquirers/Newcomers Conversations

question
Several ways to get your All Saints' news
Via Facebook and Twitter
Up-to-the-minute updates and interesting things from all sorts of sources are posted via our Facebook and Twitter accounts. The best part about social media is that all of us can post items and engage in conversation about what is posted! You can also view our recent Facebook posts on each page of our website at http://www.allsaintschicago.org.

Via This Weekly Newsletter and Midweek Updates
Each Friday afternoon, we send out this email newsletter that contains information about everything we know of that is coming up at All Saints'. The deadline for submitting items for this newsletter is Wednesday at 5pm. Additional reminders and other news not included in the Friday email are occasionally sent out mid-week on an as-needed basis. You can sign up for this email list by using the link at the bottom of the newsletter, at our website here or by emailing Beau in the office at beau@allsaintschicago.org.

Via the Website
Information about some upcoming events is conveyed via the scrolling pictures on the homepage of our website (all of them are links to more information), www.allsaintschicago.org. The weekly email newsletter is also posted on the website here and the calendar is here. Other resources, such as information about various ministries, staff contact info, pledge and donation info and liturgical ministers schedules are also available via the website.

In Print
If you're a person who prefers to get the news in print, we have a way for you to stay updated as well! We've always provided a print version of the All Saints' news in the weekly worship booklet, but recently, in an effort to save paper, the environment and money (not necessarily in that order) and to avoid duplication of work, we've begun to provide a limited number of paper copies of our email newsletter to satisfy our need for a paper newsletter. As you leave church on Sunday or during the week, you can find (color!) copies of the email newsletter at the main Hermitage Ave. entrance to the church, at the entrance near Bonnie and Beau's office and at the ramp entrance to the church. Feel free to take one so you can stay informed of all the latest news from All Saints'.

Feedback?
As always, if you have feedback about ways we could communicate more effectively at All Saints', especially as it concerns the day-to-day news and notifications, please speak to Beau Surratt or any member of the staff or email Beau at  beau@allsaintschicago.org.

Please, no more bags!
The Ravenswood Community Services (RCS) food pantry has enough plastic bags to last us until the second coming! Thank you for your bag donations, please note that we are no longer accepting bag donations!
Chef Needed!

Three times a year, Ravenswood Community Services (RCS) transforms its weekly Community Kitchen into the "All Saints' Cafe," an amazing fine dining experience for our hungry neighbors. More than 100 volunteers come together to plan, shop, decorate, cook and serve this remarkable meal inspired by Chicago's top restaurants.

The All Saints' Café team is looking for a volunteer chef to lend his/her talents to this fall's edition of the Café, tentatively scheduled for September 11 (the date is flexible, depending on chef availability). Volunteer chef duties include working with the volunteer team to establish a theme, develop a menu, write a shopping list and oversee prep and cooking the weekend of the café. Click here for more information about the volunteer chef position or contact Fran Holliday by email or at 773-769-0282.
