Greetings!
As we move into the month of July I invite all of you to join us for "The Summer of Awesome" here at All Saints'. The summer of awesome is a time to connect with others, a time to enjoy each other's company, a time for rest and renewal. It is a time to be rather than a time to do.
On Wednesday evenings "The Wheel of Awesome" will be spinning at our Summer Salon. From 7-8:30 p.m. We will sit outside on the northeast lawn and discuss spiritual topics which have relevance to our lives. Each week will spin the wheel to see what our topic of discussion will be. Refreshments will be available. Bring a lawn chair if you wish.
On Sundays we will continue with our special liturgy. Kevin Goodman, our former Associate, will be the guest preacher on July 10. He is currently the Associate Dean of the Cathedral and is excited to be with us next week.
Many more plans are in the works, so stay tuned.
Please take note that over the summer we are breaking with tradition and we will be starting our services on time. Keep this in mind when setting your alarm clocks.
Bonnie is on vacation until after Labor Day. Please do not hesitate to call if you have a pastoral emergency. My cell number is 312-401-2058. You may also contact Beau in the church office or Jack Clack if you need assistance with anything.
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday,
Blessings,
Rev. Fran Holliday

Parents' Playdate Wednesday, July 6 at 10am | | Calling all new parents! If you would love to get out of the house to chat with other parents while your little one has some social tummy-time, please come to July's Parents' Playdate! We will be meeting on Wednesday, July 6 at 10am in the Parish Hall (enter at 1757 W. Wilson). New mama Katy will be hosting, so if you plan on attending please email her at Katy.Kelsey@gmail.com. Laughing with new friends is the perfect cure for the summertime blues! |
| Wheel of Awesome: Summer Salons | |
Bring your lawnchair, open mind and heart, and longing to connect deeply with others. Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30 pm (June 29th-August 17th) on the northeast lawn of the church we will join in small groups to discuss spiritual topics of relevance to our lives. Each week we will spin the wheel to see where our discussion will land: "How does social networking impact our spiritual lives?" "Can we unplug and still connect?" "What REALLY counts as sin?" "Is a playful piety an oxymoron?" "What do the Bad Girls of the Bible have to say to us today?"
No Wheel of Fortune experience necessary to participate. No previous lawnchair theology required. No lawnchair required -- bring a blanket. Come, relax, make new friends, and enliven your faith this summer!
Childcare provided if there is a need -- just let us know ahead of time. If you want to know more, or need childcare email adultformation@allsaintschicago.org or call Jeanne Wirpsa @ 773-316-6936.

| Big, big thanks! | | |
Thank you to everyone who helped make Team RCS' participation in the Greater Chicago Food Depository's 26th Annual Hunger Walk last weekend such an amazing success. Two school busses carried about 100 (yes, that's two zeros!) Team RCS members down to Soldier Field last Saturday to join more than 8,500 other Hunger Walkers in an effort to raise awareness and funds for local hunger issues. Donations are still coming in and the Food Depository is still calculating, but our best guess so far is that Team RCS raised about $7,000 through Hunger Walk, all of which will go directly to the purchase of food for our Tuesday night Food Pantry and Community Kitchen. (Online donations will continue to be accepted until July 31 at www.chicagosfoodbank.org/goto/ravenswood.)
It will likely be August before we have the final, final tally for Team RCS, but in the mean time, RCS will continue to provide hunger relief to almost 300 families and individuals each week. Thank you again to everyone who walked, donated, asked anyone for money, carried the flamingo, prayed for good weather or otherwise supported our Hunger Walk cause. Everyone single one of you made a difference.

CLLAW (Chicago Leauge of Lady Arm Wrestlers) 2011 Saturday, July 2 10pm-1am | | Join parishioner Scottie Caldwell (a.k.a. "Snow Blight") for CLLAW 2011
The Chicago League of Lady Arm Wrestlers celebrates America, Freedom, Truth, Justice, and strong-armed lady arm wrestling in its 10th bout: CLLAW X: Red, White and Bruised. Seventeen wrestlers, both returning veterans and a slew of new talent, will compete for the honor to wear the CLLAW sash and crown. See the theatrical fundraising experience Penthouse Magazine calls "one hell of a show!" With an open bar package and tickets available for online pre-sale, CLLAW X promises to continue being the most surprising and engaging theatrical fundraiser in the city. As always, all proceeds from the madness of CLLAW benefit Sideshow Theatre Company and a partner charity.
CLLAW X benefits CLAW USA (Collective of Lady Arm Wrestlers). CLAW USA is a cooperative effort of theatrical ladies arm wrestling leagues working together to further the movement worldwide. To date, the eight existing leagues have collectively raised more than $70,000 and helped dozens of small non-profits and women-initiated projects get off the ground.

Sudan Update
| | |
We are rapidly approaching the July 9, when Southern Sudan will officially become an independent country. Check out the Statement from the President below for an update on the situation, and please keep the people of Sudan in your prayers during this difficult time of transition.
THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 22, 2011
Statement from the President on Sudan
On Monday, the Government of Sudan and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) signed an agreement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to reduce tensions in Abyei and allow UN peacekeepers from Ethiopia into the region. I commend the parties for taking this step forward toward peace, and I urge them now to build on that progress and agree to an immediate cease fire in Southern Kordofan. Under the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, both parties committed to resolve their differences peacefully, and both parties have a responsibility to end the current violence and allow immediate humanitarian access to desperate people who have been driven from their homes and are now cut off from outside help.
The situation in Southern Kordofan is dire, with deeply disturbing reports of attacks based on ethnicity. The United States condemns all acts of violence, in particular the Sudanese Armed Forces aerial bombardment of civilians and harassment and intimidation of UN peacekeepers. With a ceasefire in Southern Kordofan, alongside the agreement to deploy peacekeepers to Abyei, we can get the peace process back on track. But without these actions, the roadmap for better relations with the Government of Sudan cannot be carried forward, which will only deepen Sudan's isolation in the international community. Without a cease-fire and political negotiations, the people of Southern Kordofan cannot enjoy the right to have their political grievances addressed. The negotiations now under way in Addis Ababa demand the urgent commitment from both sides to peace and to the agreement for immediate help to those civilians caught up in this conflict.

| Coffee Hour Hosts Needed | |
Hosts for the coffee hour that takes place between the 9 and 11am services are still needed for July 17, July 24, Sept. 4, Sept. 11 and Oct. 30. If you're interested in helping out or have questions about how it all works, please contact Karen Howe at coffeehour9@allsaintschicago.org.
|
| Baking Bread for Jesus | | Here at All Saints' the bread we use for Communion is baked by people who are a part of our worshipping community. We are currently in need of a few more volunteers to help with this ministry. Bread bakers commit to baking bread for one month out of the year (either baking a whole month's worth of bread at one time or baking for four weeks spread out over the course of the year). Months which currently need bakers are January, April, May, July and August.
If you're interested in helping with this ministry, please contact Nina Chinn at ninachinn@comcast.net or 773-561-2407 and she can give you all the information you need to get started.
