Greetings!

If you haven't already asked all of your friends, Facebook and otherwise, to vote for us on the Historic Preservation web site (in the THIS PLACE MATTERS competition) please do so! Here's the link you can send to them. (http://tinyurl.com/3gzoawn) We are steadily moving up in the standing and if we finish in the top we receive 5,000, 10,000 or $25,000. So this is an extremely valuable vote. Please, please vote and post this link

We are moving forward with our plans for fixing the wall and I hope to have some dates and timelines to share with you by next week.

You will have received an invitation to evaluate my performance in a separate e-mail. Please take a few moments and fill out this simple survey by Monday, June 20th. Then come and join me and the vestry as we discuss the results of the survey at our June meeting on Tuesday the 28th at 7:30 pm.

Some of you may have heard that our diocesan office and bishop's staff is in the process of a major reorganization. A particularly painful part of this process occurred this past Wednesday when nine people whose positions were eliminated lost their jobs. Each person who was let go has served our diocese faithfully for many years. I ask that you keep each of them and our bishop in your thoughts and prayers as we journey through this very difficult process.

 In Christ,
 Bonnie
Join All Saints' ECW for a summer of fellowship!
This All Saints' women's group will be hosting monthly fun activities for the ladies in the church community. Join us as we kick off on Friday, June 17th for Mini Golf and Milkshakes! We will be meeting at 7:30 pm at Adventure Golf at 3459 Oakton Street in Skokie, and heading out for milkshakes after our triumphant round of putt-putt. Please RSVP to Elizabeth Shapiro at care@allsaintschicago.org.

Save the Date: Acolyte Great America Trip

We will gather at 8:00 am on Wednesday, June 22 for the acolyte training. Then when we have trained ourselves to a finely honed corps of liturgists (or decent acolytes) we will depart for the great North country of Gurnee to Great America. We plan on returning by 6:30 pm.

Participants should bring: water, sunscreen, hats, smiles, pleasant personalities, fearless courage and a little bit of money to buy some cotton candy.

Stay tuned for more information about ticket prices, etc. (scholarships are available).

All children who will be 8 or older by this summer are welcome to join the acolyte program.

For more information, please contact Jack Clark at jack@allsaintschicago.org.

Attention all TEAM RCS Hunger Walkers!
flamingoribbons

If you plan to walk with Team RCS on Saturday, June 25, in the Greater Chicago Food Depository's 26th Annual Hunger Walk and Rally, please read on for important details:

  • If you plan to ride the RCS Express bus to and from Soldier Field, please email Wendy to reserve your seat by Wednesday, June 22.  Water and light snacks will be available on the bus.
  • If you are not riding the bus and will be getting there on your own, please be sure to turn in a signed waiver at the registration table the day of the event.  Only walkers who submit a waiver will earn credit for RCS.
  • If you choose not to ride the bus, look for the pink flamingo flying high above the crowd at Soldier Field to find Team RCS.  (We know, we know:  flamingoes don't fly high ... except for ours!)
  • RCS will provide all Team RCS walkers with a team t-shirt (an official fitness-fashionable 2011 edition Ravenswood Run tech tee).  All walkers should submit t-shirt sizes to Wendy by Wednesday, June 22.
  •  If you plan to walk with us, but have not signed up online, please do so.  That will give us a better sense of how many Team RCS members to expect.  Sign up here.

Questions?  Email Wendy or call her at the RCS office at 773-769-0282.

WHAT:  26th Annual Hunger Walk to benefit Ravenswood Community Services and the Greater Chicago Food Depository

WHEN:  Saturday morning, June 25.  Registration begins at 7 a.m.  Step-off is at 8:15 a.m.

WHERE:  Soldier Field

WHY:  To help raise money and awareness for hunger relief in our community

Can you sponsor TEAM RCS or join us on the walk? Go to

www.chicagosfoodbank.org/

goto/ravenswood

to make an online donation to Team RCS, or to join Team RCS and create your own personal Hunger Walk fundraising page.

100% of the funds raised by RCS walkers will go directly to the purchase of food for our Tuesday night Food Pantry and Community Kitchen.  In 2010, TEAM RCS raised more than $8,000 to help feed our hungry neighbors!  Can you help us do it again?

All walkers who are registered with Team RCS - regardless if whether they raise money or not -- help earn credits to purchase food for our Tuesday night neighbors.  Come walk with us to help end hunger in our community!

Transportation will be provided to and from All Saints'.  The "RCS Express" will leave from our 1757 W. Wilson door at 7:15 a.m., sharp!  We expect the bus to return to All Saints' around 10 a.m. or a little after.  Or, if you want to be in control of your own destiny, free parking is available at Soldier Field for Hunger Walkers on a first come, first served basis.  Email Wendy to hold your spot on the bus or for parking details.

For more information, email Wendy at Ravenswood Community Services or call her at the RCS office at 773-769-0282.

Wheel of Awesome:  Summer Salons
Bring your lawnchair, open mind and heart, and longing to connect deeply with others.  Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30 pm (June 29th-August 17th) on the northeast lawn of the church we will join in small groups to discuss spiritual topics of relevance to our lives.  Each week we will spin the wheel to see where our discussion will land:  "How does social networking impact our spiritual lives?"  "Can we unplug and still connect?"  "What REALLY counts as sin?"  "Is a playful piety an oxymoron?"  "What do the Bad Girls of the Bible have to say to us today?"

No Wheel of Fortune experience necessary to participate. No previous lawnchair theology required.  No lawnchair required -- bring a blanket.  Come, relax, make new friends, and enliven your faith this summer!

Childcare provided if there is a need -- just let us know ahead of time.   If you want to know more, or need childcare email  adultformation@allsaintschicago.org or call Jeanne Wirpsa @ 773-316-6936.

All Saints' picked as the only Chicago finalist in the national This Place Matters Challenge!

Now we need your help.

All Saints' has been chosen as one of 100 finalists in the nationwide This Place Matters competition, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation designed to recognize and support noteworthy buildings that are central within their communities.

If All Saints' receives the most votes, we'll be awarded $25,000 to put toward the repair of our church. Second and third place winners will receive $10,000 and $5,000, respectively.

The voting is open from June 1-30, 2011.  Individuals can vote only once during that time. To learn more and vote, visit http://www.preservationnation.org/take-action/this-place-matters/community-challenge/places/all-saints-episcopal-church.html

If you feel All Saints' is important to the community - and you want to make sure the building doesn't fall down - please forward this email to all your friends and family, post the link on your Facebook page, Tweet it, etc. etc.

Thanks for your time and support!

Coffee Hour Hosts Needed

Hosts for the coffee hour that takes place between the 9 and 11am services are still needed for July 17, July 24, Sept. 4, Sept. 11 and Oct. 30. If you're interested in helping out or have questions about how it all works, please contact Karen Howe at coffeehour9@allsaintschicago.org.

Comings and Goings around the Office
Fran is on vacation returning the end of June.

Beau will be on vacation June 20-24 and June 27-July 2.

Baking Bread for Jesus

Here at All Saints' the bread we use for Communion is baked by people who are a part of our worshipping community. We are currently in need of a few more volunteers to help with this ministry.

Bread bakers commit to baking bread for one month out of the year (either baking a whole month's worth of bread at one time or baking for four weeks spread out over the course of the year). Months which currently need bakers are January, April, May, July and August.

If you're interested in helping with this ministry, please contact Nina Chinn at ninachinn@comcast.net or 773-561-2407 and she can give you all the information you need to get started.

Tidbits from Ravenswood Community Services

For all you fashionistas out there...

Did you see the awesome Ravenswood Run shirts this year?  You're in luck!  A limited quantity of official shirts are available for a modest donation. $5 gets you the much sought-after 100% cotton heather gray t-shirt (as seen on perennial volunteer celebrities such as Chad Spreen, Michelle Mayes and Ahn Gallagher), available in sizes S, M, L, and XL while quantities last.

$20 scores you the official yellow runner "technical" tee.  Wear it to train for next year's race (set for April 29, 2012).  Available in sizes S, M, L, and XL while quantities last.

Shirts will be for sale at the RCS volunteer check-in table on Tuesday nights.  To make other arrangements to score one of these fantastic fashion must-haves, email Wendy.

Can you donate your green thumb to help feed hungry neighbors?

Colleen McVeigh, a teacher at Ravenswood School, has won a grant from Green Corps to plant a community garden at the school.  Ms. McVeigh and her Garden Club students have offered to donate some of the garden's produce to RCS to use in our Tuesday night Food Pantry and Community Kitchen.

RCS is looking for one or two volunteers who can help Ms. McVeigh and her students tend the garden over the summer.  The commitment includes once-a-week watering, weeding and harvesting.  To volunteer or for more information, please contact Wendy at the RCS office at 773-769-0282 or by email.
