Greetings!

Ask and you shall receive!  We have officially retired the world's worst spring and we have the resources to proceed with fixing our wall. Thank you. Thank you!  This Sunday you may well notice our newly re-carpeted parish hall. Thanks to a generous gift from a couple of parishioners

I'm delighted that our young people will be the first to try out our new carpet as our Youth Group gathers for their annual Pentecost Overnight this Saturday afternoon beginning at 4:15 and carrying through all the way until 9:00 am on Sunday morning!  This Sunday, in addition to having all of our young people at our 8:00 am service we'll also have the Church School Ice Cream Social and special festive Pentecost music.

It's time once again for my evaluation.  Please keep an eye out for an on-line survey in which you can rate my leadership, pastoral care and preaching.  The survey will also have plenty of space for you to offer suggestions on where I have been helpful and ways in which I could improve.  Please take the time to fill out the survey.  Your feedback will be incredibly helpful for me and for our vestry.  At our June vestry meeting, Tuesday the 28th we'll be discussing the results of the survey. I invite everyone to join us for this interesting conversation.

Just to get it on your calendars, our former seminarian, Beth Taylor will be with us Sunday, June 26th.  I anticipate her, singing, celebrating and preaching.

Thus begins the summer of awesome.

Blessings,
Bonnie

Feel free to bring snacks or drinks to share, and we'll provide some too. This screening is ifree and open to the public, so please invite your friends!

Pentecost Red-Wearing Contest
Sunday, June 12
Is your favorite color red?

Are you known by your friends as someone whose manner of dress is a bit "over the top"?

Do you like a good competition?

Have you always wanted a set of holographic Jesus placemats?

If so, wear as much red as you can on Sunday, June 12 and you could be a winner of our 2011 Pentecost Red-Wearing Contest!

Prizes will be awarded at both the 9 and 11am services to the people who show the most "Holy Spirit Spirit."
Annual Ice Cream Social THIS SUNDAY!

This Sunday the children of the congregation will celebrate the end of another successful church school year with our annual Ice Cream Social.

Everyone in the congregation is invited to join us in the Children's Garden (weather permitting) between 10 and 11am for your favorite flavor of ice cream (Strawberry, Chocolate, or Vanilla), a wide variety of toppings and ice cream cookies.

While you're there you may also want to ask a child to take you on a tour of their classroom (we call them atria).

Buildings and Grounds Meeting
Tomorrow at 10am

The Building & Grounds Committee is always looking for new members.  We have been meeting on the second Saturday, but only every other month recently.  Our next meeting is on June 11 at 10:00.  Now that we have Ron Young helping with maintenance on a regular basis, this group meets to discuss the maintenance needs, and we are always looking for more input and ideas.  And if you want to be a fly on the wall without formally joining to learn about the buildings, that's OK with us.

Coffee Hour Hosts Needed

Hosts for the coffee hour that takes place between the 9 and 11am services are still needed for July 17, July 24, Sept. 4, Sept. 11 and Oct. 30. If you're interested in helping out or have questions about how it all works, please contact Karen Howe at coffeehour9@allsaintschicago.org.

All Saints' picked as the only Chicago finalist in the national This Place Matters Challenge!

Now we need your help.

All Saints' has been chosen as one of 100 finalists in the nationwide This Place Matters competition, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation designed to recognize and support noteworthy buildings that are central within their communities.

If All Saints' receives the most votes, we'll be awarded $25,000 to put toward the repair of our church. Second and third place winners will receive $10,000 and $5,000, respectively.

The voting is open from June 1-30, 2011.  Individuals can vote only once during that time. To learn more and vote, visit http://www.preservationnation.org/take-action/this-place-matters/community-challenge/places/all-saints-episcopal-church.html

If you feel All Saints' is important to the community - and you want to make sure the building doesn't fall down - please forward this email to all your friends and family, post the link on your Facebook page, Tweet it, etc. etc.

Thanks for your time and support!

Comings and Goings around the Office
Bonnie will be out of the office during the day all next week. She's taking a series of continuing education classes for non-profit management at the Kellogg School. She'll be checking messages and will be available in the evenings.

Fran is on vacation returning the end of June.

Beau will be on vacation June 20-24 and June 27-July 2.

Save the Date: Acolyte Great America Trip

We will gather at 8:00 am on Tueday, June 22 for the acolyte training. Then when we have trained ourselves to a finely honed corps of liturgists (or decent acolytes) we will depart for the great North country of Gurnee to Great America. We plan on returning by 6:30 pm.

Participants should bring: water, sunscreen, hats, smiles, pleasant personalities, fearless courage and a little bit of money to buy some cotton candy.

Stay tuned for more information about ticket prices, etc. (scholarships are available).

All children who will be 8 or older by this summer are welcome to join the acolyte program.

For more information, please contact Jack Clark at jack@allsaintschicago.org.

Congratulations to our EfM (Education for Ministry) Graduates!

Congratulations to Lionel Edes, Penny Penniston and Joey Sylvester who were graduated last week from the Education for Ministry program. For the last four years, Lionel, Penny and Joey were part of a committed group that meets weekly at All Saints', from September to June, to study scripture and church history and reflect on ways these ancient texts are relevant to our life and ministry today. If you are interested in learning more or want to join this on-going group, please contact Ruth Frey at

efm@allsaintschicago.org

Join All Saints' ECW for a summer of fellowship!
This All Saints' women's group will be hosting monthly fun activities for the ladies in the church community. Join us as we kick off on Friday, June 17th for Mini Golf and Milkshakes! We will be meeting at 7:30 pm at Adventure Golf at 3459 Oakton Street in Skokie, and heading out for milkshakes after our triumphant round of putt-putt. Please RSVP to Elizabeth Shapiro at care@allsaintschicago.org.

Join Team RCS in the Rally to End Hunger
teamrcs
Mark your calendar for Saturday, June 25, when the Greater Chicago Food Depository steps off for its 26th annual lakefront Hunger Walk rally to raise money and awareness for hunger relief in our community.  Hunger Walk will take place at Soldier Field this year.  Registration begins at 7:00 a.m., and step-off is at 8:15 a.m.

Like last year, transportation will be provided from All Saints' to Soldier Field and back. Or, if you want to be in control of your own destiny, free parking is available at Soldier Field for Hunger Walkers.  Email Wendy for parking details.

100% of the funds raised by RCS walkers will go directly to the purchase of food for our Tuesday night Food Pantry and Community Kitchen.  In 2010, Team RCS raised more than $8,000 to feed our hungry neighbors, and we haven't had to write a check to the Greater Chicago Food Depository since then!  Click here to make an online donation to Team RCS, or to join Team RCS and create your own personal Hunger Walk fundraising page.

All walkers who walk with Team RCS and submit a waiver the day of the event - regardless of whether they raise money or not -- help earn credits to purchase food for our Tuesday night neighbors.  The more walkers we have, the more credits we earn.  Come walk with us to help end hunger in our community!  For more information, contact Wendy at Ravenswood Community Services at wendy@ravenswoodcommunityservices.org

Green City Market Outing June 15
Green City Market Outing June 15
Come and get your greens! It's spring and the Green City Market is open for business. On June 15, come join other All Saints' parents and families in an excursion to this acclaimed weekly farmer's market for some outdoor fun strolling the market and sampling and purchasing local fruit and veggies. If there is enough interest, we may carpool from the church, but will otherwise plan on meeting at the market around 10:30am. (Rain date: June 22). Please contact Lucy at lucyleetywheeler@comcast.net or 312-315-8580 (cell) to RSVP or with questions.
Baking Bread for Jesus

Here at All Saints' the bread we use for Communion is baked by people who are a part of our worshipping community. We are currently in need of a few more volunteers to help with this ministry.

Bread bakers commit to baking bread for one month out of the year (either baking a whole month's worth of bread at one time or baking for four weeks spread out over the course of the year). Months which currently need bakers are January, April, May, July and August.

If you're interested in helping with this ministry, please contact Nina Chinn at ninachinn@comcast.net or 773-561-2407 and she can give you all the information you need to get started.

Tidbits from Ravenswood Community Services

For all you fashionistas out there...

Did you see the awesome Ravenswood Run shirts this year?  You're in luck!  A limited quantity of official shirts are available for a modest donation. $5 gets you the much sought-after 100% cotton heather gray t-shirt (as seen on perennial volunteer celebrities such as Chad Spreen, Michelle Mayes and Ahn Gallagher), available in sizes S, M, L, and XL while quantities last.

$20 scores you the official yellow runner "technical" tee.  Wear it to train for next year's race (set for April 29, 2012).  Available in sizes S, M, L, and XL while quantities last.

Shirts will be for sale at the RCS volunteer check-in table on Tuesday nights.  To make other arrangements to score one of these fantastic fashion must-haves, email Wendy.

Can you donate your green thumb to help feed hungry neighbors?

Colleen McVeigh, a teacher at Ravenswood School, has won a grant from Green Corps to plant a community garden at the school.  Ms. McVeigh and her Garden Club students have offered to donate some of the garden's produce to RCS to use in our Tuesday night Food Pantry and Community Kitchen.

RCS is looking for one or two volunteers who can help Ms. McVeigh and her students tend the garden over the summer.  The commitment includes once-a-week watering, weeding and harvesting.  To volunteer or for more information, please contact Wendy at the RCS office at 773-769-0282 or by email.
