Y'all Come!

We've got the major aspects of our faith being enacted this weekend:

Service,

Generosity

Worship

Vision and Hope

Saturday morning is Market Pantry held at the Ravenswood School Parking lot--located at Berteau and Paulina.  We'll distribute half a ton of fresh food to neighbors in need from 8:30 to 10:00.

On Saturday night we'll gather for Cajun fun and the serious work of rebuilding the city and the wetlands of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.  Gumbo Stomp is annual fundraiser for this essential work. Tickets are $25 and are available online here for a few more hours or at the door.

On Sunday, I'll be preaching and this is one of those sermons I'd really like for you to hear.

See you soon,

Bonnie
Volunteer Opportunity: Market Pantry
Saturday, May 14, 8:30-11:30am
The Market Pantry represents a partnership between the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD),Ravenswood Community Services (RCS) and Ravenswood School to bring a nutritious mix of groceries to neighborhood families in need of food assistance. In a farmers market-like atmosphere, volunteers distribute fresh produce, meat, dairy items and shelf-stable food the second Saturday of every month ... in rain, shine or freezing temps!

Wanna volunteer? Email Liz Embler at liz@ravenswoodcommunityservices.org or call her at 773-769-0282.

Gumbo Stomp 3
Saturday May 14, 7-11pm
gs3
GET READY TO STOMP, shout, or just enjoy the music!

Saturday, May 14, 2011, 7 - 11 pm, is the date for our third annual Gumbo Stomp!, a Cajun/zydeco dance party to raise money for our rebuild efforts in New Orleans post-Katrina and for the first time, help save the coastal wetlands. Live music by the terrific Midway Ramblers Cajun Band, dance instruction (optional!), and yummy bread pudding are all included in your ticket price of $25. Beverages and various tempting flavors of Zapp's (planet's best potato chips, made in Louisiana) will again be for sale.  Part of the proceeds will go towards saving the wetlands, which are essential for the survival of coastal Louisiana and New Orleans. This allocation is inspired in part by a presentation we heard last October on our work trip to NOLA (All Saints' 10th trip). Diane Huhn, volunteer coordinator for Bayou Grace, gave us insight into how that organization is advocating for change and assisting families in southern Louisiana who are most directly affected by the unnatural land loss that continues daily. We hope to  do some environmental

volunteer work on our next trip, September 30-October 8, 2011. Gumbo Stomp tickets are available online here! For more information or to volunteer, email gumbostomp@allsaintschicago.org

Youth Sunday is next Sunday!

Jeanne Em DuBose will be preaching.

The All Ages Choir will sing at the 9am service.

A group from the Ravenswood Consort will offer special music at the 11am service.

All Saints' Babysitting Night
Friday, June 3 from 6-10pm
Do you have children?

Has it been forever since you've had a "date night" with your spouse or significant other?

Having a hard time finding babysitters?

Bring the kids to All Saints' on Friday night, June 3rd from 6:00pm to 10:00pm!

We are hosting a babysitting night for children ages 0 - 12, in the sanctuary and reading room areas. We will have games, activities, and movies, sure to be a fun time for all!  We are asking for a $10 donation per family per hour - all money raised will go to support the church operating budget.

WE ALSO NEED VOLUNTEERS! Have you completed the "Keeping God's Children Safe" training? Please e-mail Christy Drackett (christydrackett@gmail.com) or Rick Lumsden (rlumsden@eb.com) if you can assist with childcare on the 3rd.
Drawing Your Version of Heaven:
A Community Art Project
What does heaven look like? Is it simply the sky, a whirl of color, a swath of comfort?

In Eastertide, we observe with joy the days that Jesus walked the earth before his ascension into heaven; before the Holy Spirit came upon the apostles at Pentecost. Local artist Karen Mooney has asked 50 different people/groups to take a square of sidewalk, a date, and draw heaven - as a image, as a reality, as a mystery - what ever works for you - it could be as simple as a listing of chosen words or as complex as your version of the trinity.

If this sounds compelling to you, please join Christy Drackett outside of All Saints' on Tuesday, May 17th at 11a.m. to draw your version of heaven on the sidewalk. Images of our artwork will be posted to the community art project blog,  50dh.blogspot.com, where you will also be able to see the creations of others. Contact Christy if you are interested in participating! (christydrackett@gmail.com)

Spring is for Singing!

Spring is the perfect time to try singing with the choir. With about 7 weeks left in the choir season, you can get a little taste of the fun you can have.  Our 9 o'clock choir rehearses at 8am and sings for the 9am service each Sunday and our 11 o'clock choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9pm (with a 10:15am warmup on Sunday morning) and sings for the 11am service each Sunday.

Additionally, the All Saints' All Ages Choir sings once a month at 9:00 service and rehearses from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. on the Saturday before, and at 8:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall on Sundays the group is singing. The All Ages Choir is open to children ages 5 and up, their parents or other accompanying adults, unaccompanied young people ages 12 and up and anyone who likes the idea of a one-month-at-a-time commitment. The 9:00 service Adult Choir joins with the All Ages Choir when they sing. The next All Ages choir rehearsal will be on Saturday, May 21, singing on Youth Sunday, May 22.

Finally, on Pentecost, June 12, the last regular choir Sunday for the season, we'll have a combined choirs Sunday. At the 9am service, the All Ages choir, 9 o'clock choir and 11 o'clock choir will sing, and at the 11am service, the 9 o'clock and 11 o'clock choirs will join together. If you're looking for a one-time opportunity to try out singing, June 12 is the day.

For more information about any of these opportunities, give Beau Surratt a call at 773-561-0111 or send him an email at beau@allsaintschicago.org.

ADULT FAITH EXPLORATIONS:  Summer Planning Meeting
Sunday, May 22nd, at 10:15 am
Please join the Adult Faith Explorations Committee in the Reading Room, Sunday, May 22nd, at 10:15 am (immediately following the 9:00 service) to plan our summer programs.  We need your creative ideas and concrete suggestions about how to make this an "awesome" summer for deepening and enlivening our faith.  If you are unable to attend, but want to share your thoughts, contact Jeanne Wirpsa at 773-316-6936 or adultformation@allsaintschicago.org.
Are we all downstream from somewhere?

With news of the current flooding along the Mississippi River  --  have you considered that which is littered here might end up there? Are you aware of large deposits of plastic on the Pacific floor? Have you given thought that what you purchase today may still be on the earth when your great grandchildren come of age?

Some?? I ask myself - do you?  Let's try to meet in May or June to see if we can help our planet.

Celtic Spirituality for Today: The Spirit, the Earth and the Human Soul- Friday, May 13, 7-9 pm and Saturday, May 14th from 9 am to noon in Kenilworth
with renowned Celtic spirituality scholar and teacher, John Philip Newell

Newell - a poet, musician, scholar and teacher -- is the former warden of Iona Abbey in Scotland and is known for his passion for peace in the world and for harmony among the great spiritual traditions.

Celtic spirituality has long held reverence for creation and the Celtic style of prayer is known for engaging imagination through visual and spatial imagery, as well as emphasizing the life of God within creation. These prayers address more than the transcendent and ultimate questions that most religions define, but also the mysteries and challenges of everyday life.  This program is sponsored in part by Seabury.  Click here for more information and to register.  Or go to www.seabury.edu and click on "events."
