Dear Friends,
This Sunday we will enter into the second decade of our Africa Bake Auction. This is an event where we can have an inordinate amount of fun spending some money on wonderful baked goods, knowing that every single dollar we raise will go to altering the course of someone's life. Picture this--you buy a bag of cookies from the silent auction table for $20, someone else gets a coalition of people together and buys a cake for a $1,000 and somehow a dozen or so folks from Chicagoland have paid for five fifth graders in Sudan to go to school instead of gathering straw and mud to make bricks. Seriously--what could be more fun--what could be more meaningful, what could look more like living out the Gospel?
So bring your credit cards, open your hearts, smile and contemplate making a financial gift that will matter.
See you Sunday--I'll be preaching and Margaret will be playing the organ and piano for her penultimate Sunday.
All the best,
Bonnie

"Art and Spirituality"
March 6th: Dan Crowley, Artist and Character Designer
This section will take place in the Parish Hall.
Dan is a member of All Saints" and has made his living as an artist for over 20 years. He's sculpted characters for award winning window displays for Tiffany & CO, as well windows for Hermes and the Stuart Weitsman shoe stores. His semi-autobiographical cartoon strip ran in the Chicago Free Press for over three years. He's taught cartooning to adults and kids. Photo-cards of his sculpted characters have sold at the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Chicago Cultural Center.
"What I love the most about what I do, is watching something come from nothing. With just a few odd supplies, I can watch a character appear before my eyes. With a pen and paper, I can create a character that can help someone understand my point of view. I see the creation process as a lesson on being open to the process and the Holy Spirit. Like a dancer in mid-dance, it's best when you "let go" and let it fly. I'm grateful to God, every time I see something I've been lucky enough to help come to be, but I know I couldn't do it alone. "
Inquirers'/Newcomers Conversations
Are you new to All Saints' and/or the Episcopal Church? Or do you just want to find out more about our faith tradition?
Join Bonnie and others for a whirlwind tour of the Anglican/Episcopal tradition, and what it might mean to be people of faith in our own time.
Our first session will be from 8:15-9pm on Ash Wednesday, March 9 (following the 7pm Ash Wednesday liturgy). We'll then gather on Wednesdays, March 16th, 23rd and 30th and April 6th and 13th at 7pm for a simple soup supper and our weekly session, ending promptly at 8:30.
ALL are welcome. Please RSVP, so we know how many people to plan for. Questions and RSVPs can be sent to Beau in the Parish Office at beau@allsaintschicago.org or 773-561-0111.

CHILDREN at All Saints
| | Solemn Communion Program Begins March 5 Solemn Communion is a program for children aged 8 or older in which children spend time reflecting on and learning about the meaning of the Eucharist in preparation for making a "Solemn Communion." For some children, this is their first communion, for others this is a deepening of the experience of receiving communion.
The details: This year the Solemn Communion Group will meet during 4 two-hour sessions to take place on Saturdays - March 5, 12,19, 26, and 1 two-hour session on Friday April 1st. Each two-hour session will run from from 9am to 11 am. The children will then participate in an all-day retreat Saturday, April 9 from 9:30am to 4pm with a celebratory family Eucharist from 3-4pm and a short reception after. Children must be able to attend at least 4 of these sessions as well as the retreat day to participate.
If your child is interested in participating in this year's Solemn Communion group and you have not yet spoken with Polly Tangora please do so by March 1st. For more information, contact Polly Tangora at polly@allsaintschicago.org.
All are invited to attend the Eucharist at 3pm on Saturday, April 9th at 3pm to share in this celebration with our children.

"Not the Last Supper" Suppers 2011
All Saints' is again organizing weekly Lenten dinners, which are an opportunity for getting together during the Lenten season and a great way to get to know people beyond coffee hour. In the past, groups have gathered at parishioners' homes or at neighborhood restaurants one night a week (usually no earlier than 6pm) for food and discussion during the season Lent. Click here to sign up online or fill out a paper form at church.
Please complete a written or on-line form by February 28.
You will be contacted by March 7th with your group information and dinners will start the week of March 13. There will be five weeks of dinners during weeks of March 13, March 20, March 27, April 3 and April 10. We will do our best to match you with a desired group and day of the week but depending on others' choices we may not be able to honor your first choice.
Questions? Email Barb Giloth (773-262.0639) and Peggy Cushing (773-218-7061) at lentendinners@allsaintschicago.org.

Can you help? If you have ideas for Irish music, themed decorations/paper products, etc. we'd love to make this as festive and fun as possible. Could you help set up or clean up?

| Do you have a prayer request? Will you pray for others? |
| What are we doing when we say prayers of thanksgiving and intercessions for others in church? Is praying at home in private different from praying together in church? In the intentional act of naming the joys and concerns of others, we become present to those for whom we pray. The "Prayers of the People" is a time in our service to say aloud the names of people who have asked for prayers. It doesn't matter if you know them. It doesn't matter if two or ten or one hundred people are speaking at the same time. This cacophony of prayer is heard by God. The intercessions we pray in church provide a tangible and powerful way for each one of us to partner with God in compassion, mercy, and justice. To add a name to the Parish Prayer List (names listed in the church bulletin, and the weekly e-mail announcements) please enter them at prayerlist@allsaintschicago.org. |
Ravenswood Run Sunday, May 1
