Dear Friends,
There's nothing like a burst of warm weather to remind us that, just as grass lies below the snow, so also spring will follow winter. That said, there's still a whole bunch of snow out there that needs to melt before the grass will have a chance to grow. So what's a person to do? How about getting outside and wandering around for a bit and then joining us for church this Sunday? I'll be preaching, Margaret McCamant will be leading our music (she only has three more Sunday's left--how can that be?) and between the 9 o'clock and 11 o'clock worship services we'll have the opportunity to explore the intersection of art and spirituality with our guest presenter, Bill Buchholz.
I'm looking forward to seeing you all and to squishing around outside dreaming about warmer days to come.
All the best, Bonnie
P.S. Please bring your credit cards and check books NEXT WEEK for our AFRICA BAKE AUCTION. Our friends in Southern Sudan very much need our assistance as they embark upon building a nation. Your donations of baked goods and your gracious willingness to buy back these very same items at substantially inflated prices will enable this congregation to make a connection and a difference with people in need who live 7000 miles away. You can make a difference.

ADULT FAITH EXPLORATIONS: "Art and Spirituality" February 20 and March 6 at 10am
| | Two community artists will share their work and lead us in a discussion about the spiritual dimension of their creative process and on the power of art to transform ourselves and our world.
February 20th: Bill Buchholtz, Native flute player This session will take place in the Church. Please join Bill for music and conversation from the heart. This is a rich chance to meet Bill, ask questions, and explore how art deepens our spiritual connections. Bill's goal is to educate people about the traditions and spiritual significance of the Native flute. He is widely known and respected in the inter-faith community in Chicago and frequently performs at community events throughout the Midwest.
"Music is in my blood and being a musician is who I am. Since I have Native blood, being able to play Native music honors the gift the Creator has given me. My first flute was a gift from a Lakota Sioux elder who told me it is my medicine, it is a gift from the creator. I am told by many elders that if you don't share your gift the creator will take it back."
March 6th: Dan Crowley, Artist and Character Designer This section will take place in the Parish Hall.
Dan is a member of All Saints" and has made his living as an artist for over 20 years. He's sculpted characters for award winning window displays for Tiffany & CO, as well windows for Hermes and the Stuart Weitsman shoe stores. His semi-autobiographical cartoon strip ran in the Chicago Free Press for over three years. He's taught cartooning to adults and kids. Photo-cards of his sculpted characters have sold at the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Chicago Cultural Center.
"What I love the most about what I do, is watching something come from nothing. With just a few odd supplies, I can watch a character appear before my eyes. With a pen and paper, I can create a character that can help someone understand my point of view. I see the creation process as a lesson on being open to the process and the Holy Spirit. Like a dancer in mid-dance, it's best when you "let go" and let it fly. I'm grateful to God, every time I see something I've been lucky enough to help come to be, but I know I couldn't do it alone. "

All Saints' is again organizing weekly Lenten dinners, which are an opportunity for getting together during the Lenten season and a great way to get to know people beyond coffee hour. In the past, groups have gathered at parishioners' homes or at neighborhood restaurants one night a week (usually no earlier than 6pm) for food and discussion during the season Lent. Click here to sign up online or fill out a paper form at church.
Please complete a written or on-line form by February 28.
You will be contacted by March 7th with your group information and dinners will start the week of March 13. There will be five weeks of dinners during weeks of March 13, March 20, March 27, April 3 and April 10. We will do our best to match you with a desired group and day of the week but depending on others' choices we may not be able to honor your first choice.

| Do you have a prayer request? Will you pray for others? |
| What are we doing when we say prayers of thanksgiving and intercessions for others in church? Is praying at home in private different from praying together in church? In the intentional act of naming the joys and concerns of others, we become present to those for whom we pray. The "Prayers of the People" is a time in our service to say aloud the names of people who have asked for prayers. It doesn't matter if you know them. It doesn't matter if two or ten or one hundred people are speaking at the same time. This cacophony of prayer is heard by God. The intercessions we pray in church provide a tangible and powerful way for each one of us to partner with God in compassion, mercy, and justice. To add a name to the Parish Prayer List (names listed in the church bulletin, and the weekly e-mail announcements) please enter them at prayerlist@allsaintschicago.org. |
