Dear Friends,

Please join us for an ecumenical prayer vigil on Thursday, July 29 at 7:00 p.m.  All Saints' is standing in prayerful opposition to SB1070 with faith communities across the country.  SB1070 will go into effect on July 29 in Arizona and targets undocumented immigrants.  Join us as we work for and pray for justice for all God's people. Please invite your neighbors, family and friends to attend this important vigil.

I hope that all of you are having a good summer and finding rest, relaxation and fun.   On that note, I want to extend an invitation to everyone to join us for an outdoor Eucharist followed by a picnic and swimming on the beach.  This event will happen on Sunday August 8th at 11:00 a.m. at a picnic area near the Foster Avenue Beach.  The hospitality committee will be providing hotdogs and hamburgers. Please bring a dish to share.  If you wish, bring lawn chairs, swim suits, blankets and towels.  Please note that we will have an 8 and 9:00 a.m. service at the church. The 11:00 a.m. service will be held at the beach.

Volunteers are needed at our Tuesday night meal program and pantry this week, so please come by if you have some time. We need baggers, and people to help serve and clean up following the community meal. Email me at fran@allsaintschicago.org for more details or to let me know you're coming.

Blessings,

Fran Holliday

Funds received by Ugandan students
scriptureunion2010 Students at Nile High School in Arua, Uganda (part of the Scripture
Union Club) have received the tuition money sent by All Saints'. Assistant headmaster and sponsor of the Scripture Union Club, Aluma Alex, sent photos and wrote to say that 20 students received
approximately $120 each to put toward payment of their school fees. The students and Aluma are very pleased and thankful for this continued support of the educational opportunities provided by All Saints'.

Also, recently, Aluma emailed to share his and his country's concern about the bombing in the nation capital of Kampala (Nile High School is in Arua which is part of the North that is affected by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) attacks). He says,

"...taking Uganda as a whole, we are not happy. This is because of the terrorist attacks which took place July 11 in our capital city of Kampala. At least 74 innocent civilians were killed when they were watching the world cup finals. The incident has shocked the whole country and we are worried about our securite in social places."

Please continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in both Uganda and Sudan who live in fear of attack and endure ongoing lack of necessitates that we so take for granted.

Do you forget to make your pledge contributions when you're not in church as often during the summer?
If so, then you might think about having your pledge payments automatically charged to your credit or debit card.

Click here to set up a recurring payment to All Saints' or to make a one-time payment online.

Big, big thanks!
teamrcsThank you to everyone who helped make Team RCS' participation in the Greater Chicago Food Depository's 25th Annual Hunger Walk such an amazing success!  More than 40 Team RCS members joined 7,000 other Hunger Walkers at Soldier Field on Saturday morning to raise awareness and funds for local hunger issues. Team RCS and its supporters raised more than $7,600, all of which will go directly to the purchase of food for our Tuesday night Food Pantry and Community Kitchen.  (Online donations will continue to be accepted until July 31 at www.chicagosfoodbank.org/goto/rcs.)

Because Team RCS participated at such a high level (lots of walking team members, plus lots of money raised!), the Food Depository will contribute a "bonus" amount to the money raised by our team.  It will likely be August before we have the final, final tally for Team RCS, but in the mean time, RCS will continue to provide hunger relief to more than 300 families and individuals each week.

News from Padre César and the people of Santa Maria Virgen
pentecost2010 E-Pen Pal Opportunity

We are looking for All Saints' people who would like to get to know individuals at Santa María Virgen better - without even leaving their homes.

Padre César has sent us a list of people from Santa María who would like to correspond with people at All Saints. This is a great chance to practice your rusty - or beginning - Spanish, but even if all you can say is "más cerveza, por favor" there is hope. There are a number of not-bad on-line translators to help you (and your Mexican correspondent if you write in English).

This "commitment" requires only a little time and is a great way to develop a more meaningful relationship with some of our brothers and sisters around the world.

Right now we have the names and e-mail addresses of a diverse group of people from the ages of 16-45 and Padre César has promised to send me more names and addresses.

Let Karen Howe know if you would like to take part by sending her an email at mexico@allsaintschicago.org and she will get the rest of the information to you.

All Saints' Book Group

For more information please contact Aubrey at bookgroup@allsaintschicago.org or in Church during coffee hour.

Did you lose something at church?
lostandfound If you did, now is the time to claim it!

There is a lost and found box just outside the door where you exit the Sanctuary going toward the Parish Hall. Items in the lost and found will be given away or disposed of after July 31, so please claim any items you might have in there by then.

Food Pantry and Community Kitchen Volunteer Opportunities
Is God calling you to be a part of the Bread Hauling Ministry?
Ravenswood Community Services, the food pantry and community kitchen here at All Saints', is looking for some volunteers to help with its weekly bread pickup.

Every Tuesday, someone or a team of people goes to the Aldi near Montrose and Broadway to pick up over 200 loaves of bread and deliver them to All Saints'. The minimum time commitment is one Tuesday per month and the job usually takes between 1 hour and 1.5 hours. Having a large vehicle is helpful.

Contact Fran Holliday at fran@ravenswoodcommunityservices.org to volunteer or for more information.

Not called to be a part of the bread hauling ministry, but feel God calling you to volunteer some other way?

RCS is seeking volunteers to help with a number of other tasks including washing aprons and kitchen towels and sorting canned goods. Contact Fran at fran@ravenswoodcommunityservices.org to volunteer or for more information of you could help with one or more of these tasks once or twice a month.
