Project Homeless Connect 2010
Expects Increase in Community Need

Tuesday, July 27, 2010, Chapel Hill, NC: The 4th annual Project Homeless Connect Orange County will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2010 from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM at Hargraves Community Center in Chapel Hill. This year event organizers expect to serve 250 guests at the one-day, one-stop event; with over 50 social service agencies and 300 volunteers participating. Community members interested in being a part of this event are encouraged to visit the website, www.phc-orange.org, for information on services, volunteering, donating goods and funds, or serving on the planning committee.

Since 2007 the event has served nearly 600 people in Orange County experiencing or at risk of homelessness withPHC Logo - Vertical housing, job-readiness resources, health and dental care, mental health assistance, social service benefits, legal services, and more. The event is a key strategy of Orange County's Ten-Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness.

The website, www.phc-orange.org, was created with donated time and resources from Chris Butler at Newfangled (www.newfangled.com), a Carrboro-based web development company.

Project Homeless Connect makes a powerful impact on homeless people's lives by providing a wide range of assistance in one location and by the outpouring of respect and hospitality. It enables service agencies to efficiently reach many people in a single day and to coordinate their services together. At the same time, it educates the community about the issues surrounding homelessness while allowing individual community members to contribute their efforts, talents, and compassion.
